Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Not gonna, HAVE TO happen. I'm getting acrophobia in this thing, it's like driving a straight truck. When my dad drives it and says we gotta lower it, it's bad. Just gotta pump up some truck bux and it's on. I don't know how much, it runs up hill to the front! Probably 4-4.

In other news, Yeller is back to life. we put the new circuit in the cluster, we have all the dash lights, the *&&^$#@#%^^'in temp gauge still doesn't work, I installed a separate ground to the cluster housing (highly recommended) so everything else works much better, and we pulled the dash face out to meet the inner structure so they could finally be bolted together and we could have a brake pedal stop. Remounted the column, Boppa did the alt and hoses, and it fired right up, but not smoothly. Pulled the valve covers and we had the valves a bit tight, so we reset them and the carb. Timing sounds good and it starts good and the dist is where it should be, but nowhere near the timing mark on the balancer. Who knows. It seems to be running really smooth. We'll reassemble tomorrow with all the pretty parts and see what happens.

Thanks, it's been an adventure! If I can figure out how without going on a violent rampage, I'll have pics of the nats on the thread. It's a great time.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Thanks, I USED to kinda specialize in shiny long ago. Hoping I can keep this one tight. Like I said, it's almost too nice for me! Trying to find a fix for this @#$$#@@$@# temp gauge as we speak.

Need to borrow my temperature gauge calibration tool? Or do you have your own?

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Well, hmmmm. I like that tool! I'll be danged if it didn't magically come to life last night. Don't know why, don't know how, there it is. Probably cuz Boppa bought a gauge yesterday. It still seems like it has a tight valve, but they were all set, and it runs better the more it runs. Put the new detail painted polished valve covers on and new rear shocks on last night, hope these work better. Hopefully it's going home today.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

I got a yard fulla them things.

Boppa is Rollin for home! Moved the dist gear 2x, hit the sweet spot, set the timing. Redid the new shocks with sleeves, much much better best thing we did so far. Temp gage is alive, seems low, but responsive. Common ailment, no biggie. Rewired the radio with all the grounds, still throbbing buzz. Cleaned and loomed plug wires, tucked wires up under dash. Put the brace in the other night, brake pedal pushrod is too long for it, got brakes waaaay hot on test drive. No good way to shorten, pulled stop pad off brace, good to go. We'll see how it goes.

I missed something here, what brace, why would a brace make the pushrod too long, did you get a new master cylinder or something?

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Brace under steering column that also acts as the brake pedal stop. Has a long pad. Brakes were set at the long amount of travel, then I put the part in and shorted the pedal travel about 3/4 an inch, thinkin' it'd bleed down. Not so much. Ran the stop pad through the bandsaw, all bedder. Way too big a PITA to disassemble and short the rod.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Well, in the interests of conquering my technophobia, I uploaded some pics to the Web (since we can't do it here anymore, apparently) and I thought I'd update on the old yellow crate.

When we got it back together after the new heads, it ran ok at first, then it started surging, and when firing it up after a show, it'd smoke like it had 200k on it. Grrr..... So, we called the machine shop. Heads are 70's 993's, redone with guides, PC seals, ETC. He said he did them himself and he'd make it right if necessary. He asked what intake gaskets we used. I used the standard Fel-Pros in the kit. Come to find out, they make a standard 1/16 thick gasket, ANNNND a 1/8 gasket. Clyde said to try it before we did anything else. So, we got a set and tore it down again a couple weeks ago.

And, we found that the mating surface on the Edelbrock Performer we've been using for years is as-cast, and not that great. And, someone musta been smokin' that good 70's weed at the GM casting plant, 'cause those surfaces were as-cast as well and um, piss-poor is a good term. Plus, the bottom rings around the ports were SOAKED in oil. Hmmm. So. So we put it together with our beeeg theeeek gaskets and then cranked the ol tork rench up to 45 lb from 30 and squeezed them suckers down good and got the squishy squishy on. It's been running good since then. I really think we've been having this problem all along.

Here's a few pics, we'll see if it works.

Tech tip: Packing blankets from HF for 5-7 bucks a crack, make awesome fender/core support covers!

Sorry, no pics. 3 hours, 2 photo services and still nothin'. I quit for the day. Thanks for lookin'.

Click on the different photo sizes to get the real URL.
When viewing a different size, right click on the picture, select Properties, highlight and copy Address URL from there - then paste here using image icon above in toolbar.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

tried resizing, no dice. Out of patience for today. Is there a problem with flickr? I tried google+ and nope, nada. In fact, can't even find the ones I transferred over, much less do anything with them.

I've been known to have major computer issues.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

I'm a genius

You are trying to use the URL for the page in which Flicker uses to encase the pictures into flash or similar.
You need to view the different sizes of your pictures so that it navigates you away from that page.
Then follow the above instructions from previous post.

btw, I selected Medium 640 (640 x 480)

np man. I can imagine - that Flicker page looks like it's designed to protect your pictures from hotlinking (which is what you just did above )
