I was just going over the T5 pics you sent me. I'll use some of them for my T5 page.

Who will cut the hole in your cab floor for the shifter? You, or the shop?

Shop will cut the hole. I put it in the punch list. The job is drive in/out. Only thing they won't be doing is floor mat and shifter boot....havn't decided on the boot or which brand/style of floor mat yet. I'll yank the old Tree shifter later too.

We'll get some install pics after the Astro is in case ya want em for the page....cool page too. And, I'll go over the details with Mr. Gordon at the shop. Make sure we ID the perzact clutch/plate/bearing used, any suprizes, etc. Good thing is the drive shaft will be easy, 4 days delivered from Driveshaft Specialities, totally new, Spicers and it should spin 100K miles with Zero maintenance.

Rich, were you able to find the speedometer cable locally? I've tried to find one on the OReilly site without success. I suspect that I will need a longer cable too, but forgot to find one before we started the swap.

Na, no cables local. We're just gonna order it. I think its under $17 from LMC for cable and houseing so, that'll work. Only thing classic has is a way overpriced Lokar cut to fit and its like $80 or more....crazy high.

Interesting bit will be the 66 ebrake set up. He's got a 66 in the shop to look over and I think that'll be the cleanest and neatest swap out.

For now, I'm standin by....gotta bon fire tonight and tomorrow at 0900 we head for the Low Country....will be in the deer stands before 3 PM!

We are gonna use the 72 4x4 chevy cable, 83" long with the treaded fittings on both ends.

Today was my turn. Woods Goat down at 345 pm. 7x57 Mauser. Shoulder shot and DRT. Sure wish John Lee was here to haul it outta the swamp. GoodWife is gonna pukecrap when she sees Ruby the Red Wrangler!! Pics on return home.

Gordon Auto Body, Lee St. Chad Gordon, Propriator and Chief Hot Rod Builder Upper. Call em....better, run by tomorrow and meet Chad and ask if ya can see the 55 Ford Truck they just finishing up with V8 and T5 and John Lee is sittin in there getting worked over too!

Just back from the Low Country, 4 days spent questing for deer with wncdeerhunter, family and friends. Dads first hunt with the gang and his lifetime 5th and 6th deer - over 30 years hunting. Persistent to say the least.

Only had to call out the neighbors once to find Dad in the Swamp....some gateraid and a beer and he was back in fightin trim the next morning for a 12 hr sit on steel chairs in a ground blind.....he is persistent!

But, Dad and I brought three more deer to the skinning rack....bringing our Low Country Total to 6, exceptional season and we feel blessed. And the gang? While not everyone got a deer, I believe everyone saw and got a shot and 9 hunters brought a total of 9 deer to the skinning rack in just under 4 days. Awesome.

And, I learned even more this trip from the Ol Timers.....At 74, Dad don't hear too well but he still shoots pretty spanky well, to the chagrin of two more deer this trip!

No stand selection is final until the truck is actually on the road in the morning....Much discussion, specially among the Ol Timers, concerning stand quality and selection revolves around its Pee Worthyness.

For instance:

A stand with high rails is good for shootin....but if that same stand has heavy/no pee thru skirting it becomes 2nd or even last choice for a long day sit. More so, if a skirted stand with high rails has a low roof and ya have to take a knee to aim the golden flow. It seems to me that Pee Worthyness even trumps comfort 98% of the time....consider the tree lounge stand, a ladder stand with mesh hammock seat, adjustable shooting rail and foot rest....AWESOME Stand for hunting......it evidently gets a -4 for Pee Worthyness since ya can't stand in it and a bottle pee is a horizontal affair tween pinched together legs juggling a rifle and yer sammich in the cargo pocket too close to the pee bottle that's sloshin back out as fast as ya fill it......Pee Worthyness......learnin something new every day....!

I'll argue for the Tree Lounge - if you have the bow attachment, standing is no problemo. And comfortable......

I gave a few rides to deer this last week. Muzzleloading season.

So, Tree Lounge is a stand and pee with a bow hook....how bout with a rifle, can ya set it aside or is slung for a pee? Its important, ol hunters gotta be able to argue it till the truck leaves the driveway!

Dads Wed evening Button Buck. 80 yards, 7x57 Mauser, Winchester 70 Feather Weight, 150g X bullet. Trailed it 30 feet into the thick stuff....took an hour to crawl in there and drag it out!



My Thursday afternoon buck. (2 Pics) 75 yards, 7x57 Mauser, Parvi 139g SP, DRT (Dead Right There), no trailing or tracking.





Dads Friday Evening (1 Nov) Buck....Low Country SC. Win 70 Featherweight, 7x57 Mauser, 150g Barnes X, Broadside thru and thru, 30 yard track and then 2 hours to find my Dad in the swamp....long story! Got him and the buck back safe to skin and debone it in the pouring rain. I love that man dearly, even when he's keepin me up till 1 AM in a rain storm!

This is Dads 7th lifetime deer and his third buck - over 40 years of deer hunting time. Persistent fella.

And just because Dad missed a bigger buck between the one above and the button on the first night....we had a formal changing of the hat ceremony...Low Country style.

Off with the official Meat Gun Man Camo Orange Hat and on with the Ya Missed A Big One? pink camo girlie hat which he dutifully wore till he shot the one above!



Now, the story...it was a fast shot on a moving deer and he's pretty sure the trigger got feathered back too light and that lead to a weak primer flame and slow bullet that went under. Says on the one above he really mashed the trigger and the bullet was a lot faster cause of a hotter lite off the primer, bullet went straight in and out this time.....Good theory?

I really love reading about your truck. It should be really great with the new engine and the T5. And I think it is awesome that you are getting to hunt and spend the great time with your dad. Anyway, keep up the great work on John Lee Jr.

Thanks. Just got an email from the shop. New motor is being covered with tins, etc. They got the head off the old motor and ol number 4 just came completely unglued. They are not sure but think maybe detonation in that cylinder, spark plug is even in several pieces. But they'll be calling Tom Langdon to go over setup of the HEI and Weber on the new crate motor. The key questions will likely revolve around good timeing/etc for the new engine and low grade 87 octane gas.

Off to the shop this morning to look over ol #4 and take some pics. Guess we'll be getting in touch with Mr. Langdon cause if detonation killed it I never heard or felt it. It's sure I misinterpreted something important or that old motor just wasn't strong enough to hold the advance and the lean carb. Sure was powerful and smooth. It broke cold so I just don't' know. Spect we'll narrow it down soon.
