Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

na i didn't look for one. when i seen the bee mound in the.cylinder i was actually relieved. i thought it would be a bent valve causing it not to turn...but it was just the dirt mound.

once i get the heads back on im gonna give it another shot and see what happens. either way im gonna start some body work soon

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

thanks..scared the hell out of me when it started. open headers in a garage....

somethings bugging me tho, i want to let it run enough to hear how it sounds, but it seems like when it turns on, it sounds like someone is smashing the gas pedal and its super reved up. i checked the linkage that the pedal connects to and i adjusted it..but it didnt change anything. any reason why it would be doing that?

i disconnected the fuel hose that runs from the pump to the tank, i ran it straight to a gas can because my tank isnt finished..

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

nvm i got it...i had the linkage backwards on the carb. i also had to cut, bend, and drill a new hole in the rod, but i got it. turns on, runs and idles smooth after some adjustments. just leaks a little fuel from the front hose i think, i gotta work on that. gonna fix the driveshaft carrier bearing not aligning with the bolt holes, do the rear brakes and it should be ready to drive around the block !!!!!

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

ordered new acorn lug nuts from rockauto and ill get my wheels back on...

trying to figure out my gas tank problem. currently im starting the truck with my hose from fuel pump running to a gas tank on the floor, but i want to run it to my actual tank. i blew air threw the lines and it seems not to be blocked....but my problems is how im going to handle the fill tube. i raised my tank 2 inches so it doesnt get smashed when i air it out, but obviously the stock fill doesnt line up. should cut out the original mounting hole, and raise it up a few inches...or weld it up and run a "through the floor" mount in the truck? i would rather keep stock location, but im sure the 2" rise in the hose would keep gas sitting there....i like the 2" move up but it might look out of place....im not sure about the floor mount because i dont want gas smell all throughout the truck....

opinions welcome..

Raise up the stock one or add a newer gas door. I wouldn't put it inside either.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

np..i think i will just move up the stock fill tube, im not a big fan of the pop open doors.

if i mounted it as is, with the stock hole 3" lower than the tank, would that allow gas to sit there in the tube or not even make it to the tank (causing gas to spill out)?

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

Got the fuel line finished outback..i bent the stock line up the notch, bought a new flared line and bent that around the rest of the notch, connected the 2 together with a small piece of fuel hose and clamps, then ran about a foot of fuel hose from the tank to the hardline on the frame like the factory did. Not the most prfoessional setup, but it should work and will be covered by the floor anyways. Also installed new rear brake lines from lmc. Working on the fuel filler..and thinking of this....

Im going to have to use a spacer on the filler to mount it right...its at a small angle. Does anyone see a problem running in like this?

Ya. With the cost of new stuff (close to $200)...i shouldve switched to disc brakes. Live and u learn i guess...

Close to taking this thing around the block! Need to grease all fittings on the suspension and u joints, put the cotter pins in the suspension, flush radiator, and mount the fuel neck....

Does the pic above look like an extreme angle for the fuel hose? Those last 2 inches will be hose to connect the 2 together..

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

finally "finished" up the fuel filler hole. i cut it out and raised it up a few inches and forward about 1 inch. fill tube is still a little at a slant, but im thinking of cutting the dip off the stock filler and running a straight tube.

Angle of the fill tube. I already put gas in and it filled fine..nothing spitting back up. Truck turned on and ran also, so i know. The fuel pump is working.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

I noticed something when im running the motor....i can see some light smoke coming from the passenger side of the motor. I thought it was something from the wires, but i didnt see anything. Not coming directly out of the manifold either. Just the passenger area of the motor...not sure what it could be. The top of the motor (valve covers, water neck, etc.) was getting really hot, not sure if thats normal with the old motors. Was real hot to the touch. As soon as i get my brake problem sorted out ima gonna take it for a spin and see if i notice anything.
