Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Yes indeed. The fire is lit.
There's nothing like having to do the same work over again. I bought some new drip rails a good while back to replace the rusty ones on my cab. They backordered the driver side and sent me the passenger one. So I installed it and moved on to the next project. Later on I finally received the driver's side drip rail and installed it. A little time had passed and one day while talking with Alan about wanting to add the rear cab trim I noticed that the drip rails ended in different locations. Basically, the driver's side rail was 1-5/8" shorter than the passenger side. So here I am grinding spot welds again so I can install the new, correct drip rail. Gotta love it.

Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Made a little progress this weekend.
Finished filling in the unecessary holes in the firewall. I've been planning on painting the upper part of the cab white and adding the paint divider cab trim, but my cab didn't originally come with the cab trim studs, so I bought the replacement trim screws so I could add the trim. After talking with Alan he informed me that his stud gun came with the trim studs. So we used the weld on studs instead. Aftermarket trim screw and the weld on stud for comparision. Cab before and after Starting to get on a roll. Stay tuned.

Thanks Greg. Just trying to keep up. Your cab is shaping up nicely. It's just sheetmetal. At least that's what I get told anyway. This is my first restoration and I've learned so much first hand, plus a ton off the board and from other members.

Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Hey Shannon, have you decided on an HVAC unit for your truck or are you goind with a stock setup? I'm leaning towards Vintage Air, but Old Air looks to be comprable.

Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
I bought a Vintage Air unit here a little while back. It's pretty slick unit that uses the original control ac/heater control. I unpacked it when it came to ohhh and ahhh over it then I packed it back up.
One of the board vendors matched an online price that I found w/free shipping. I believe that all of the brands are pretty comparable in performance and price. There are a few members who just installed the Gen IV unit that I have. Check out Crash_OK's build here in the 4x4 section and also HartRod's Suburban build. Here's Mark's build. Page 13 post #311 shows the unit installed http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=494599 The Superburb. Last page post #1258 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=200387 Edit: The vendor was Scott's Hot Rods

Thanks for checking in Heath. One more thing to check off the never ending list. Nothing major, but got the Vintage Air unit mocked up. Next is cutting in the center ac vent and drilling the two side vents. Progress.

Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Finished converting my non-AC cab to an AC cab this weekend.
The Vintage Air kit came with templates for the vents which made it pretty easy to get them located. Nothing elaborate, but here are a few pictures of the progress. Locating the driver's side vent. The kit also came with a template to help locate the center louver. I was a little nervous about making this cut because of the contour of the dash at this location. I was concerned about getting it centered and level. But it went well. The VA kit had some of the mounting bolts, for the evaporator, coming through the exterior firewall, but in keeping with the smooth firewall theme I welded some bolts to the inside of the firewall. Like I said earlier, nothing elaborate, but progress just the same.
