Brings back memories of the show "CHiPS" with Ponch & John the motorcycle cops. In one episode they had to chase down a movie car with all those things. During a chase the car made an oil slick. The machine guns were fake though. Bet all your stuff will be real and kick a$$.
Im going for a cloaking device myself.

I like your heater extension along with the vent cables. The e-brake change over from the knee smacker is my favorite so far. Great idea.
Thanks Bomp !!
Speaking of CHiPs, the one episode I remember best was the domestic disturbance one where the wife was out on the lawn and had set her soon to be ex-husbands Trans Am on fire. I recall Ponch got the car for like $50....

I am getting closer to the seat. So far I am trying to work from the top down inside the cab. Next on the play list is working the dash extension, tranny hump access door, Herculiner the floor, sound deadner with carpet, and some of the wiring. I wont worry about the seat until it is time to reinstall the doors and door seals. Once the seat is done I wont want it getting dirty.

I also picked up an engine balancer to make pulling the motor back out a lot easier.

Also today, in keeping with my wiring and dash extension plans, I picked up the sound system. I admit I bit the quality versus price bullet this time. I stood in WalMart for almost an hour just staring at the stereo display playing with the demos and listening to the speakers.
My Tempest has $2,200.00 of sound in it but I have to keep in mind that this is a small truck cabin compared to the land yacht convertible the Pontiac is and I will be sitting in and on the speakers in this build. The acoutics are going to be 180 degrees of difference from my Tempest.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

Well old business first...
I did a mount for my cyclops light but I didnt really like it.
I goofed it up and the light mounted up side down to what I wanted, then it turned out to be too shallow for the light housing.
I really did not want to cut any more than totally neccessary so I re-did it.

This is what it came out as. I also added amber bulbs to it for the left and right turn signals.

Flips you asked for a dead on side shot to check angles, I think this should cover that question Heheheh.

If anyone is interested, I will post next on how I made the gasket that is between the mount and the cab.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

Since I did not take any photos while I was actually doing this, I have recreated the process here for FYI purposes.
Like many of us I tend to get on a roll, focused on what I am doing, having fun and not only do I miss the photo ops--- but dinner sometimes too !!

For a water proof gasket that will follow an edge on flat surface, or be pancaked down like a plate but not torqued too hard this is what you can do.
For this application I used 1/4" or 3/8" vacuum line and split it down one side.
I suppose you could use larger hose for larger applications as needed; I just have not needed to yet.
As some of you know every thing is spooled in a standard direction that is why it is easier to loop a hose or extention cord left handed than it is right handed, and why they twist up when you dont.
So I try to cut the hose on the inside of its natural curve so it will follow the corners more easily.
Name: 18nov12 how to make a gasket (1).jpg
Views: 862
Size: 48.4 KB

then you run a bead of form-a-gasket on the inside. Here I am using the Permatex stuff I used for my water pump.
Name: 18nov12 how to make a gasket (2).jpg
Views: 856
Size: 31.3 KB

Then carefully feed it onto the edge you are working on. Be sure to tape it down every inch or two, as the silicon will make it as slippery as buttered snot and you will be mad and messy....
Name: 18nov12 how to make a gasket (3).jpg
Views: 863
Size: 46.1 KB

Then it is just a matter of working it on all the way around. If by some chance you did not measure right, or the line was stretched when you cut it and you come up 1/8 or 1/4" short with a gap, dont dispair. You can just fill that space with the gasket sealer. I ran tape over my gap filler so it would have the same contour as the rest of the gasket.
Name: 18nov12 how to make a gasket (4).jpg
Views: 863
Size: 40.2 KB

Put it aside and work on something else for a day or two while that sets up.
Impatience is my worst enemy.

And that is it, easy peasy.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

Yesterday I decided it was time to face the tranny access door issue again.
My first attempt was off to a good start, but I got ahead of myself and physics kicked my butt on it.
So I tried again.

There is just something that is too cool about taking a flat square of sheet metal, and making something out of it that really gets me going...how weird is that?

Here it is installed: I may go with some beefier fastners, I snapped the heads off two of them installing it for the second time.

Since the my dome light shared a hole with the cyclops light on the outside, I decided I would mess with both of these at the same time.

So here I got the dome light installed as well. I made the mount for this so it would house my spot tweeter speakers. This dome light is from 69-71 Caddillacs, Caprice, and probably a few more GM models. This particular one came out of an Eldorado. I like the map reading lamps is why I grabbed it and added it to my build.
Installed:

Just the dome light, and dont mind my light lens, I made it out of a milk jug.

Just the map lights:

I have started on my dash extension console side panels, after I get that all mocked up, it will be time to weld it in.

Like all the mods so far. Have them bookmarked,,,,, Plannin on comming back at a future time to ssstealll them for my truck.
I do have to ask though.............. Is there a seal or gasket around the tranny inspection cover to prevent leakage? I might have just overlooked that bit of info.
Since Im at it............Is there a vid on the subject matter?

Steal away, I have no trade secrets. Just more time, energy, and ideas than I know what to do with. Not sure what kind of video you would be looking for though. But fair warning, I do no look good or sound good in front of the camera !!
I know about the bookmarking, I do that, and save a lot of build photos from different projects going on here!!
I am not 100% done with that tranny access cover... after I pull the engine back out, I am going to mark the cover from the underside and weld in baffles that will help prevent water intrusion.
I will also be making a gasket for that, either a snug up with rubber hose, or some sort of flat gasket with bicycle inner tube.
Either way, it will be waterproof !!
More to follow on that.

There was retainer tabs and countours for that dome light lens cover that I had to stress into the plastic. I threw it into the vice and gave it a good squeeze. It will do the trick until I make an order to the Caddy parts place.

I also have to confess that the angles of the cyclops light, and the mount I made were purely accidental in how they countered each other so effectively. I clearly recall mounting it up, and then taking the photo, and after posting the photo saying to myself "wow, that really looks like it was made for that..."

Got my HURST C-shifter in yesterday !! Gonna get that tranny mocked up with the shifter and cut the hump before I pull the engine back out this weekend.

Hooray for progress !!

Ummm yeah .... cold weather, I hear ya !!
Good luck with that down there

********************************************************

So this week my shifter handle arrived and I was like ---- Yay !!!
Name: 19nov12 Shifter handle arrived.jpg
Views: 733
Size: 70.1 KB

Then today I mocked it up to cut the tranny hump and access door, and decided to toss in the seat too, you know just to be sure.
Then I was like ------- bummer !!!
This is with the shifter in 1st gear..... Le'Sigh....
Name: 22nov12 shifter handle mock up.jpg

I always knew this may be an issue so I made sure to remember the adaption that Markb did with his build here:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=444502&page=2
with this adapter plate he made,
Name: shift adapter plate02.jpg

So tomorrow before I yank the engine and tranny this weekend I am going to make one of those and ensure it clears all tolerances because there have been a lot of parts to this project that have been held up or set aside waiting for the transmission and shifter considerations.

I hope each and eveyone had a wonderful day, Happy Thanksgiving to all those so inclined to celebrate it. Time for dinner here !!

Oh, Happy Thanksgiving too.
All I have is a propane torch here, so not sure I could do it with that for one; for two I would be really pissed at myself if I screwed it up or jacked up the chrome.
I confessed to the wife I was feeling like an idiot because I was handling the shifter with kid gloves because it was so shiny and new....

Yeah,,,propane just ain't hot enough. Any which way ya go with heating and bending the chrome is going to suffer. If its under the floor and isn't seen, a person can live with it. I want things perfect and most people (like You and Me ) even if its not seen by others, we know whats there and still want it to be perfect. Its that silly pride in your work thing.
Not to make lite of your situation,,,,,, but in conversations past.......this situation would be a great topic for your show idea.
