Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
thanks for the kind words. its appreciation and support that makes the little things matter when building a truck. it means a alot to me to say, yeah I saved that thing from the scrap yard. I can't wait to show the guy a pic of the truck and let him know what they could become. Its been a looooong journey with this one. thats why I call it hardtimes.
I take pride in doing things right as much as I can. I like doing frame off builds and putting my touch on just about everything. Its always a balance and learning experience. So that keeps the motivation alive. I'm literally already hyped to work on my next truck, its just sitting and waiting for hardtimes to get outta the way!!!

For fun, I looked up patience in the dictionary and right beside Job it said "see also: 99toLife."
Seriously, I think a lot of people prob look at your threads when they get bogged down or in a rut for inspiration to stay the course. I know I do!

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
5/31 well this month has been a bit sidetracked with time and money, but I'm slowly chipping away. Finally managed to get my seat cover made. Its been a long back and forth with myself on what I wanted. Ordering sample fabric, doing computer moch ups, just brewing on it for months and months. I still haven't installed it in truck, since I don't want to mess it up. I'm always in and out of the truck and filthy as can be. the color is a very dark brown, not black. Couple pics are of it just setting on seat, not installed.
I put some sound deadner up on roof. Tried to make a one piece headliner, but it didn't go so well with the luan board trying to bend into shape. So, I need to find something else that will hold shape and yet be able to staple my vinyl to. Got the tail lights wired up, just need some brackets, also got the license plate lights mounted. You wouldn't thing it would take long at all, but man it just does when it comes to any wiring. I can now proceed with my carpet. Need to do speedo, ebrake, wrap up the doors. did start on window track today as well. ebrake and touch up paint and odd ball little things. but shes pretty much almost ready to hit the streets.

Not sure if you have come up with something for the headliner or not, but triggered my memory on this thread, brikar has some pretty solid looking interior work and he used a mold-able sign board and high density foam. Looked like something I may try when I get to that point, so just thought I would pass it along. |

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
For my headliner I made a fiber glass mold of the outside of the roof, then trimmed it down to fit the inside. Covered it with upholstery foam and glued the vinyl to it. Check out my build starting at #164, then some after pics at #714.

atmommik, ya I'm not trying to do all that for the headliner. You did a good job though. I think I can find something more flexible. Dustint- thanks I'll look into that link.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
hey guys, totally off subject but here is a really cool link that we can all relate to. The film was shot in my home town and where I build my trucks. Titusville PA, where the oil industry started, most guys don't even know that. Which is funny because often times we take for granted those who paved the way for us.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
6-7 another short work weekend. Got some time in today. Finished up door seals. New window tracks have been installed. I'll put glass back in windows and doors are almost done. Still need to install the actuators for the latches.
Started on some taillight brackets. Also got rockers coated and had to patch the bottom of the door pillar/cab corner. was a left over area I ended up putting off for way to long. Ordering up some exhaust brackets asap, thats the only thing keeping me from driving it more. Getting plates this month. Windshield, ebrake, speedo, wipers, keyless entry are on the list to get it on the road. Its been such a long over drawn out process with mr. "49hardtimes" so I decided to keep the memory of the adventure with me forever. tattoo looks much better in person. My friend did it and is just starting out. Hes gonna be a great tattoo artist.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
thanks guys. yesterday was a ruuuuffff day. Pass door went on pretty good after door seals (actually put them on backwards) but shuts good. DS door, I put seal on right and it is so off. Took me hours to try and get it right. So basically I took some of the seal off the bottom and it seemed to shut a little better. I had to make a new bolt on plate for my bearclaw anyway, so I'm just fine tuning the adjustment as I make a new plate. I'll post pics of the plates again, when I get them all complete and painted.
I am probably going to get some plates made and offer them up down the road for anyone that would want to do bolt on plates. and or just so I don't have to make them by hand again! hope next weekend I have some better progress. Going to put exhaust hangers on and finish doors.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
6-14 Chipping away, so close to hitting the road. insured, registered and just about ready for the road. Got exhaust buttoned up. Spent a while readusting my claws for door gap fitment. The DS I did first and was a different method. The Pass side went much faster and actually didn't have to cut a hole in the door for the claw. anyway.... I got the plates coated with chassis saver, rather than prep them and blend them into the doors, I like the contrast.
Hoping next week to install the actuators for the bear claws, then I'll put the final door glass in. Need to install ebrake, carpet, wipers and some little things here and there. Oh I made a shifter boot too, getting it buttoned up tomorrow. NO vanity plate for this build, PA now wants almost 80 bucks. I couldn't do it, my pennies are so stretched as it is.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
6-21 Fathers day. Got a little work in today. I'll post better pic of the bracket I made for the actuator to mount in the door, when I do the PASS side. Rigged up my AVS keyless entry (can watch video on that). Had to make a new HUB to mount the receiver, and relays. One relay will run doors, one will run the air system for remote airup/down.
Overall I'm pretty happy with it all. Cost for the keyless is about 75 shipped. Waxed me 16 on the shipping. I got some 17lb actuators off ebay for about $30. Then alot of hours in getting it all to work. With my new knowledge and templates I now have. I think I could spend about 3-4 hrs or so each door, possibly including the actuator mounting. The wiring for all this however takes alot of time. I spent a few hours on it today. I like to route my wires up through the cab and door pillars, but that takes alot of fishing to get right. One cool thing about this feature is (not shown in video) the parking lights will blink once to let you know the system has been activated. Also the interior door handles will work. ***VIDEO*** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZdg...ature=youtu.be
