Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

So what's a guy to do?...make my own...so here it is..I started with a couple pieces of 6in od aluminum..then I used some 6x8 aluminum tube to add a outer ring..I pressed the 6x8 ring on the solid chunks to form a flange...v-d out the seam on the lathe and then welded the v solid..this formed the start of the flange...then a whole lot of lathe work and I had it ruffed out..

Then to add some feature to it, I found 10 IH logo lug bolts for a IH cub...I machined those down and knurled the shafts and then pressed them in the hubs...some pics of the bolts before and done...
And installed in the hubs..

Sprayed em down with etching primer,,then a couple coats of satin black...
And now I've got some redneck fake full floater centercaps...
And I saved the lives of 10 IH logo bolts that were headed for the scrap yard...

the rims are supposed to be satin black as well ,but you can tell there is a difference in shades of black...im hoping its just dirty rims and with a wash job they will match a little better

Well some excitement....followed by huge disappointment...awhile back I was tickled to score a pair of IH logo mirros... they had some blisters and I wanted to rechrome them...I got a quote from a somewhat local plating co....and they shocked me when they wanted 300$ each to rechrome...I decided id just run them as is...then a guy turned me on to elpaso plating..they said they'd replate both for 175$...so I sent them off..I could live with that price...they came back today..opened the box and WOW...they look great.....then the bottom fell out.......the IH logo , that was the main reason I bought these mirrors, is gone....plated over..invisible..vamoosed....DANG THIS SUCKS!!!!!.....I could have bought a plain Jane set of yankee mirrors for a whole lot less $$ if Ida known this....

They must have had millennials doing the work. Anybody else with a few brain cells touching would have observed the IH, and known what to do..... Send those back.

Once the mirrors are done right they will be fandamtastic. Honor thy Father.....

Problem is you could send them back but the HI is still gone. Had a similar problem with an old boat, sent my parts to a high end plater and paid a lot of money to get them screwed up. finding replacements was like trying to find hens teeth. good luck on trying to get it straightened out

I sent em a email last night..I'll see what they say...the IH logo was reccessed into the base..I assume it was stamped or pressed...I can see the reverse image on the bottom...so I dont know if they filled it in or if the chrome filled in the void..

Well, that's not cool!

They had to have filled them? Doesn't the electric charge create a hair thin layer of each chemical? I would think all the different platings would have left the logo exposed? I mean, it somehow worked 50+ years ago and the logo showed.

My thoughts exactly..i wouldnt think a thin layer of chrome would bury the logo..so I'm not sure what happened
