Re: Previous owner '68

That looks like the air cleaner on my 69 GTO. Those Pontiac dual snorkel air cleaners bring good money these days.

funny you say that... years ago I saw these listed somewhere for 1k of corse in much better shape than mine ....so should I list it some where see what it will bring for someone who is in need of OEM? or customize/basterdize it for my own use ....OCD woke me up this morning thinking about how I can make it look like the 68c10s Camaro cleaner..... and use it on my current build

Re: Previous owner '68

Dang, is it a 62? I used to have a 68 but always thought if I ever got another Vette it would be a 61-62. I like the fixed headlights (no vacuum or electrical to mess with!), the solid rear axle, and the ducktail style rear end on them.

The 58-60 grills are too busy.

I had the chance to buy a 61 years ago for $13k, but I was still paying off my house so I didn't buy it. Nice car, I love it!

Worked on the brake bracket and brake pedal for a change of pace.

And, unfortunately, still working on the rear cab area. It's getting better but is still not up to my low standards.

Cab is looking great. I remember doing the rear of my cab and it definitely takes a lot of time. It’s a big area to sand!

Re: Previous owner '68

Nice air cleaner, and it's a factory dual, I had to make mine.

If you're like me (I think you probably are!) having something cool and unique means more than money. I'm afraid after I die all my cool and unique will suddenly become flea market filler!

I have to agree on all your comments ...I may try to restore it ( I got pretty good at chrome powder coating) and then who knows ?

Re: Previous owner '68

Where was I? Oh yeah, I was at the corner of Sick and Tired of sanding on the cab. So I decided to find something to weld.

The passengers door seemed like a good candidate. 10 unwanted holes. 3 original and 7 po installed. Someone had mentioned earlier the door looked pretty good. Just wait until I get started on it! Everything gets worse before it gets better...

So I blew all the Bondo dust of off Clarke (safety first, that stuff burns like crazy) and commenced to welding. Came out decent after I ground off all the welding boogers.

Oh no! More filler work! It never ends (until it does).

I can hear some of you now, "You shoulda oughta grinded it down to the bare metal!". Well, start your own thread and have at it! I am, after all, the future previous owner.

Re: Previous owner '68

Then I flipped it over and proceeded to slather copious amounts of fiberglass filler over the welds of the inner repair. Not too shabby. Man, the bottoms of these doors got more wrinkles than Aunt Hilda.

Also been working on the driver's door. You can see the mis-matched lower repairs in these pics. I know, I could do all the work and not show all the warts but what's the fun in that?

Re: Previous owner '68

So, I started on the outside. Under the previous previous owners (not me, the guy before me) carefully applied zinc-chromate primer was a lumpy mess.

Re: Previous owner '68

So I ground it out (hey, I'm a hack, but there are limits...) and started over. A little hammer and dolly work got it a bit closer and some filler just for good measure. I won't work on the outside of the doors again until I get them hung. Then I'll tweak the doors to the cab.

Re: Previous owner '68

Flipped the drivers door and started trying to make it more presentable. Like a teenage girl on prom night, I started with some foundation, which, in my world, means fiberglass reinforced filler.

If you identify as a teenage girl I apologize. I'm a Boomer, what can I say.

Re: Previous owner '68

Then I started trying to even things out using bondo, hammers, and, for some reason, a pair of scissors (???).

Dang, it's too smooth to be factory and now I have to revisit the passengers door to make it smoother. Boys, be careful what you do, it sets a precedence that is often hard to live up to.
