Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Today I upgraded from some plain aluminum valve covers and chrome air cleaner to finned aluminum replacements. Also a few other cleanup items under the hood.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Great day today! Spent the morning installing the new lock set, gauge cluster bezel with LED bulbs, and passenger mirror on Sprout, followed by some chrome polish on the bumpers and wheel trim. Then my wife and I took Angus to the local building supply store to pick up some trim material for our guest house remodel. Turns out Angus' tailgate is the perfect height for me to use as a workbench for cutting trim with my mitre saw. Wrapped the day up by driving Sprout to the store to pick up dinner. The weather was PERFECT today so I was thinking of excuses to drive the trucks and just be outside all day!

In hindsight, I wish I'd have taken some pictures today...

I went to the truck @ 0-Dark:30 and adjusted the auto choke rod ~ it was a shade too much choke when cold , now it idles much smoother as it warms up .

That bed liner looks really nice ! .

So do the rest of the trucks here , makes my old rig look junkyard ready .

No , I have the 292 and got the head rebuilt , new bronze valve guides to replace the crappo original cast iron ones , I have the 292 short block on the stand awaiting me to begin , I have several long distance Road Rallys coming up soon so I've been rebuilding the front suspension and brakes in my '59 Metropolitan Nash FHC , it's back on the road and buzzing right along but then a wheel bearing began to howl on right turns , sounds like a rear hub bearing is going bad...

The current 250 I-6 is running champs , the HEI allows me to run .070" spark plug gaps , this burns all the oil it blows so no misses but , it gulps oil a quart every 200 miles , not good ~ I'd thought about dropping the oil pan and yanking the cylinder head , pushing out the pistons and re - ringing it with gapless piston rings then slap the pre smog 292 head on it for now but maybe I'll do that later as I have other vehicles that are barely chugging along right now .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I took one step forward and two steps back today so to speak when I was wiring up the tail-lights on the '67.

I got both tail-lights to work and the left brake light to work. I did a little trouble shooting and found out there was no voltage going to the passenger side.

Then I got the wise idea to pull the steering wheel and check out the turn signal switch and messed with it a little, now the neither brake light works.

I guess I will have to do a little research and trouble shooting another time.

good to here its running better, so you are building a 292 for the truck...thats cool. my 292 has 116452.0 as we speak, and still running strong and no oil useage . maybe it will run ok until you get time to drop the 292 in it...good luck

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Drove up to Nevada IA for the Annual Spring Fling Car Show. What a day, lots of beautiful cars (not but a handful of trucks), 75 degrees and sunny. Looking forward to the next show.

Washed it, vacuumed the interior, cleaned the windows and wheels then took it for a drive to squish bugs all over it again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Posted via Mobile DeviceToday was a less then spectacular day. I came home from work and fixed the starter, only to have the truck decide it didn't want to idle. I looked down to see no oil pressure at idle, but the it jumps up when giving it gas. Wonderful. Then I see smoke rolling out from under the hood. I discovered oil all over the front of the engine. Woderful x2. Looks like its off the road til I can put a new oil pump and pan gasket on it. Then I can try to figure out why it only wants to run on 7 cylinders all of a sudden. Been a crappy day.
