I found the other turn signal brass spring, thankfully. I'll slap the steering wheel back on a little later & enjoy working turn & self cancelling signals.

I deleted my old post, because some of the info. was worthless. I finished the pan three hours ago. It hasn't quite settled yet, and will improve in appearance. That takes about 5-6 hours here. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with it, this POR-15 is nice stuff.

In the past I've used a lot of brushes, but primarily just wood and drywall This is different animal and warrants more detail. First time I've done anything like this, and here's what I learned:

1. The applicator must remain wet. That's true for all paint, but it's worth mentioning here. If you run dry using this stuff you'll see it. Has to be nice even strokes of paint...................However,

2. If it's too thick this stuff will run on you. It's self-leveling to some extent, and why I have to sand my timing chain cover, which I did first

3. Gravity. Other than the real tight areas using a tiny brush, my last coat was from the top down.

4. Move fast. Somewhere there's a happy place between doing a good job and speed, especially for something with as much real estate as this pan. A gun would do a better job on large parts, but you can't go wrong either way. Nice coat.

5. This stuff doesn't spread well with a large foam applicator. Too slow as well. The second coat on this pan was done with a foam applicator, and it looked like crap. The first and last coat were done with brushes. I used a small round brush for the tight places, a 3/4"ish square brush for bottoms and depressions, and a good 2" brush. That square brush is the bomb for this work. I picked it up yesterday, and have a new favorite brush. Not a blemish.

6. Use a small foam applicator on the flat areas on small parts. Before the pan I hit the timing chain cover using a 1" foam brush. It looks like it was sprayed. But I have to sand it as mentioned. Next time I take my favorite brush to the depressions.

7. I may be off base, but I went light on the first coat and pretty heavy coat the last. Seems right. Oh yeah, LOTS and LOTS OF LIGHT. I didn't have sufficient lighting until the last coat.........Whoops.


EDIT: My pan doesn't look anything like this anymore, I stripped it ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!. Lesson learned, I should have sprayed it, though I've since improved with a brush. My buddy "Grease" is making the valve covers pretty anyhow, so he'll hit the pan as well. Dude is the best in the area, simple task. He MIGHT, I say MIGHT end up painting the truck. Haven't heard back from the other guy in a while. He's doing it as a side job, trying to justify his shop Ha!. Nice competent guy, but he may be losing interest. Grease is probably another 6-8K. Truck is a MONEY PIT man, but someday she fires up.

Not quite yet. I made the final adjustments to the mechanism and cable yesterday. It too a lot of trial and error. The one issue I ran into was the transmission cross member. It wasn't evident until I mounted the lower cable bracket on the bottom of the transmission. The opening to mount the cable interferes with the cross member slightly, so I had to move the entire bracket up by one bolt, closer to the gear shifting lever at the front of the transmission. Even with that, the actual cable fits tightly over the cross member with the bracket (with slotted hole openings),is pushed back as far as possible. It puts a little stress on the cable making the "bend" but not really distorting it at all. The main issue is getting full interior cable adjustment (the inner cable pulled out completely) when it park - it just barely works. Other wise I think it will all be good. My only worry is that 1 LOW feels like it will just engage, and hopefully not pop out. But hey, I seldom if ever use the lowest gear on the TH 350 anyway. Look for more pics this week. Anxious myself to see how it all looks!

Thanks for showing me what to expect in my future. Actually, I'll probably just take the bolts out that connect the whole framework of the flatbed to the truck frame.

In the meantime, I finished up fixing my turn signal cams in the column. The previous cam had the switch screwed into the plastic cam directly. The screw had lost grip & came out that started this whole thing. The old cam was broken. To make a long story short, I bought a package of screws & nuts to fit a nut on the backside of the new cam, so the screw will have something strong & threaded to hang on to. But, it's back together & I had a successful test of the signals.

Just loaded the '70 on the trailer,going to get safety check,( have to in Ontario), full duel exhaust and front end alignment,been working on this for 2 years and finally going to be on the road.

Finally got the correct original style 710 cap for the oil fill neck and replaced the pcv grommet in the valve cover, old one basically fell apart when I tried to take it out.
Oh and fair warning, don’t buy Mr gasket products like that, I started to put a cap on my oil fill neck today and it fell apart and the base fell down into the oil fill neck, just barely stopped before it entered the manifold. Luckily Oreilys had a telescopic magnet.

And made use of the long bed to haul some soffit and metal for the garage, hoping to start on the roof soon.

Finished my brakes and installed this Hickey bull bar. What a PITA. Nothing lined up right and it fought me all the way. It took some convincing but it worked. Like it.

When my ball joint gave out, I ended up buying many new tools, so I know how that feels. I picked up a Ridgid impact gun trying to install the lower ball joints, but I needed heat. So, now the impact rides with me in my daily driver & works nice when I have to remove & install wheels.

Well I hauled a bed full of mulch home in the '68 so the wife and I could spread it around the bushes. About the time I was cleaning out the bed I said to her " Damn I wish I had taken a picture of the old girl "haulin" So you guys will just have to believe me. LOL

Ran over a bolt in the street yesterday, so I took the truck up to the tire store to get the tire fixed. About the time I was leaving, a flatbed pulled in to load up a Jokeswagon Jetta. By the time that clown was done, my tire was ready. 1.5 hours. That store has the worst parking, ever. I'll only do warranty work there until I need tires again, then it's going to be nearly anywhere else. I have things to do that don't involve being land locked by a tow truck driver who takes that long to hook up a car and go, especially with the owner and keys right there.
