X2, your wife indeed "do good".I normally don't like "custom" seat covers , but this looks just right in my book. Kudos to her! Sharp truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Took the Oreillys upper ball joints back out with vice grips, because they weren't really 3/4 ton 85 balljoints, even thought the box says they are. found some real 3/4 balljoints at another store, instock. Put those in. Yeh, they seat in the spindle. Finally got my 85 disk breaks in my 68. Found out the Tallon Hydraulics adapter for my hydraboost rotates the unit upside down, so have to return all my new stock 2004 Chevy hoses back to NAPA and make custom hoses. Guess I'll find out how good my Mastercool tubing flare tool works. I think it has the right dies. Also stripped a shock absorber mount stud. Guess it'd been torqued one too many times. Looking forward to being sure I'm going to stop in time. Jim

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Nothing today (yet) but yesterday, made a breakthrough!

Finally had the time AND help: blew out the fuel and vent (EEC) lines. WOW. Ton of charcoal-like dust came out of both sections of the vent line.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Bought a goodmark gas tank and it does not fit. The filler neck is the wrong angle. I think I will unsolder it and rework it to fit.

Good bye 3.73 gears, Hello 3.08. She cruises at 2000 @ 65, instead of 3000! It's a whole new driving experience.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Oh, I found out that NAPA no longer carries radiators for our series of trucks so they'd have to special order it, $360.00 before shipping.

So I guess I'm going to have to get a radiator from a classic vendor.

Post Re : Cooling Solutions

U.S. Radiator in Los Angeles makes good stuff , better than the offshore made (means : Chinese crap) ones you'll get from all the old truck partshaus' .

If you have a real radiator shop nearby , they can install a custom four row core to your original tanks for under $300 if they're honest and this will be the very best bet as over capacity radiator allows the thermostat to do all the work as God and General Motors intended .

got Rochester 2GV rebuilt (stuck float, flat spot on accel pump and 40 years of nasty grime) and painted the hood hinges. Runs like a dream.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Installed a 1-1/4" front CPP anti Sway bar on my 64. Drove around all the corners I could. Amazing change in the handling. No more rolling land yacht type of body dip. Cool upgrade.

Question Re : Final Drive Ratio

Did you swap the entire rear end or just the R & P ? .

What are your plans for the left over part(s) ? .

I may well be interested in your old 3.90 set up .

TIA ,

-Nate

I just swapped out the front and rear ring and pinions. I'm going to hang on to the 3.73's in case I decide to do the 6.0/ 4L80E swap. They only have 3000 Miles on them...

Yeah. In fact, it kinda pisses me off. I want to pull out my cable operated set up (that works perfectly), and put this one in. Man, am I sick!

saw this on superflysteiny's build and seriously considering doing the same how much more difficult is it installing behind glovebox door rather than stock location?

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I am actually pretty happy. I removed my rear drums without any trouble at all and found a lot of rust in there AND the hub turns easily by hand so....no rust in the rear end! I plan to clean up the drums' insides tomorrow and get ready to flush out system, bleed, etc.

I was a little worried as she would not roll more than one inch a few weeks ago....just rusted up drums.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I picked up the Advance Auto radiator suggested to me on here (3 row) and I tore down my driver's side rear drum and cleaned all the parts. I think my adjuster screw/pivot nut is seized.

OK. Called NAPA and ordered both pivot nut/adjuster assemblies (both sides) and had them set me a set of brake drum springs aside as well. Gosh I hope I can get this all back together!
