Got my new bed floor installed. 1 1/2 inch tonge and groove cedar we pulled off the roof of an old house when I was just a child.

Painted the hubcaps and steering wheel. Polished some chrome. I'm gonna take the hubcaps and badges to a friend that pinstripes to put orange on 'em. BTW, the truck is orange.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
What kind of paint did you use on the steering wheel that it won't stain or wear off, just wondering what holds up, have never painted a wheel.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I haven't been posting on this thread yet, but decided I should start.
I got my park lamp and turn single lenses in today, along with a new turn signal switch and glove box. I also got a new license plate light. Got them all installed, although still having issues with my turn signal cable and wiring, so I am not quite ready to have the truck on the road yet. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
That's about 11.86 mpg if your numbers are accurate, I get a little better with my 283 that doesn't run right, but I'm about about 500 feet above sea level with little elevation change in most of my drives. I think you need a tune up to say the least, 15 mpg would be more reasonable, but I don't know that much about the straight sixes, so hopefully someone else chimes in who does.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I had an old '65 at one time with a straight six. I was able to get about 13 mpg with it on relatively flat ground. Back then, I had no clue how to tune motors up. I was only 17.
With my current '62, I was getting 8 mpg when I got it, with a 350 running on 2 barrel carb meant for the original 283. I changed the carb to a 4 barrel and my mileage increased to 14 mpg. When the transmission took a dump, I replaced it with a th350 and now get around 18 mpg for some reason, and I imagine I would see another increase if I bumped it up to a 700R4. So, these trucks can get decent mileage. I would imagine the 6 cylinder could probably do pretty much as good, or even better. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I tried to back my truck out to drive it and got stuck. It's been nice weather here and the roads are clear but my driveway is ice covered and the truck is in a hole about a foot deep of snow. I'm going to drag it out with the 4x4 tomorrow and probably put the heater in it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Made my first video clip with the dash camera yesterday, and discovered there was a hideous rattle in the camera itself which was so loud it blocked out the engine noise! Of course my truck has all sorts of harmonic vibrations which are probably what set off the rattles at just the right rpm.
Several hours and modifications later I believe all the rattles have been eliminated. Hopefully later today I can try again and capture someone worth posting.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Swaped front tires to put smaller ones on, mine are too wide to get her on the carhualer. She will be going to the exhaust shop Friday to get duals!
Also wired the license plate light and hooked up a temp. radio so I'll have some tunes! Readjusted the hood some more. Doing a little tightening up so I can drive her next weekend! Can't wait my wife's grandmother gets the first ride! She has been asking for months now!! Posted via Mobile Device

I've heard of guys getting 15-18 mpg; but I've never personally experienced one doing anywhere near that--regardless of engine/tranny combos, or type of driving terrain. **I've never tried even my own V-8/700R4 (overdrive) combo on highway runs as described above. All my runs have been mostly around town, 75-year-old-man-type driving; and we'll not even mention mpg's this combo delivers on such runs. |

Those are going to look great with your front suspension and open engine compartment.
