Re: What did you do to your truck today!

somewhere on here, i read about using 0000 steel wool for cleaning windows. today i tried it out and found that it worked great. now that the windows are clean, i was able to start tinting. got the rear and the vent windows done before running out of light and had to get more tint

Never heard that about steel wool, better than the chemicals I use, have to keep it in mind for future use.

while the 0000 is ok for occasional use, its really not good for all the time. best you can use for cleaning your windows for tint is a white scrubby pad with mild dish soap/ water mix. the white pads arent as abrasive as the greens, and will last for a while. they also do a great job at taking off old adhesive and knocking down the factory black dots on newer vehicles.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Taking advantage of the last really nice day this week, I put 4 coats of glossy black onto the gas tank nozzle and this is the first coat of "hammered" silver that goes onto the tank.

Geeze, I wish I had a spray gun!

I cleaned out the vent's, cowl and under the Bench...The amount of Filth and stuff under the bench was out of this world...It looks a whole lot nicer than it did few weeks ago..I cleaned under the Tailgate and it was so dirty it was unbelievable

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Finally found the time to fix my fuel pump problem. The LS engine is perfect under the hood and I drove it home from my work shop and it's sitting in my driveway.

Post Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I filled it up , topped off the oil , checked the coolant & ATF , washed the widows (BTW : try White Vinegar before using # 0000 or finer steel wool) and headed off to Yucca Valley , it's only a couple hundred miles , by the time I arrived there @ 10:00 AM it was 99° F & didn't get any cooler .

I had a nice breakfast @ C & S Coffee then bought and loaded up another old Motocycle I'll fix up for re sale ~ I'm gathering $ for my new cab (whenever I find one) and total re paint .

Pix are of the Moto after I loaded it .

In the end , it's nothing special nor new , just another old beat to shyte CHEVROLET Light Duty Truck out earning it's keep long after those wretched Brand 'F' rigs are all junked .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

(Love seeing pics of that green stepside VWNate!)

I ran by Lowe's and picked up some springs to try and replace the broken spring on the parking brake handle. Either size worked fine so I picked the smaller of the two as it was closer to the original. Probably the easiest fix on this whole job!

I'm dying to go out and paint the gas tank but I'd better get other things done.

Post Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Thanx for the kudos folks ! (I'da said ' Fellas ' but you know I gotta be P.C. these dayze right ?) .

On another Forum I'm on the geezers (like me) are all bragging about their long bed AC equipped no maintenance necessary late model Chevrolet pickups , I guess they're nice and all but I'll be rattling across America in a clapped out I6 powered Chevy until I can't .

This old Moto is supposed to be a '68 , we'll see when I go by The Auto Club to - day after work and try to get it registered...

It never had turn signals but from 1967 ~ 1970 Honda pre wired them for turn signals and even mounted the switch so all I gotta do is find some junked Motos from 1977 or older and swap 'em over to this cute little Moto .

If ever I find a decent cab , I hope to make my truck look as nice as the FANTASTIC ones I see here , just not all chromey and so on... .

Not to worry ~

In fact , I've been fretting about whomever paints my new cab (when I find one) because getting them to re - spray it 100 % so I won't be finding other colors behind the gas tank , under the carpets etc. ~ this sort of thing drives me batshyte , I cannot have this on my vehicle .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

To the guy having to have his towed to the mechanic: I pray I don't have to do that but I have a fear I will.

VWNate: I'm with you on the old paint showing through...that would bother me also.

I just talked to the original owner (my dad)....I thanked him for keeping it so long and taking good care of it. *He's beat himself up for not ordering new body parts from GM when he could have. It's OK though...at least we have it and it's in OK shape.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Drove mine around the block for the first time since I owned it. I was sitting 6 years before I got it. Sent another member my old air cleaner since I put and aftermarket one on.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I decided instead of going out an buying pre-made tubs, why not just widen what is already there and give it a somewhat "stock" appearance. So that was my project for today.

Got both sides cut apart, tomorrow I will bolt the halves into their new homes and figure out how wide a patch panel I need then off to the sheet metal store.
