Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I put the newly painted hubcaps and fender badges on. I didn't realize I had 3, 64-65 caps and 1, 66 until I was spraying primer. Oh well, they look good. Those with keen eyes might notice that the 66 is on the left front. It was the straightest cap.

BTW, Thanks to whoever made it to where the pics are automatically resized during upload. It's good to not have 2 folders of the same thing in different sizes.

What's the difference in the caps? Any idea what these ones I bought are?

jayoldschool, it looks like you have 64-65 caps.

From what I have learned on here, the 66 caps are the same shape as the 64-65, but the 66 has a raised rib to stiffen the cap so it does not get bent as easily as the 4-5 when it is installed.

66 cap top, 64-64 bottom

Wasn't it a great feeling to be using your truck to get the lumber, bet you spend more time talkign about teh ride vs. picking out the lumber.

Didn't happen today, but Monday, I picked up a new carb, Tuesday a step bumper, Wednesday got the new windshield installed along with the new carb, Thursday new points, condenser, cap, rotor, wires and plugs, Friday got it registered for the first time since I've had it.

Took off the passenger side rocker panel. Gonna order the parts this week: lower door post, rocker panel and rocker backer.

Thank god for spot weld cutters!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Following vital input from forum member TR65 I resolved all my fuel issues and made a couple of new videos this morning. Nothing spectacular but the first shows how easy the truck starts and the 2nd confirms it doesn't flatten out in 3rd gear any longer.

The YouTube links are in my build thread.

Dropped off the dealer step bumper to be straightened, blasted and primed.

It's good to have someone who works in a steel construction shop.

I love actually using the truck whether it's dump runs, going to a buddy's house to pick starfruit or avacados, or home depot runs. Its just fun to drive, and yea I had about a hour conversation between two different people on the way in and out of getting the lumber haha. And thanks guys my wife will be happy to hear about the photo!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Took a trip to the body shop that is supposed to be working on mine. Talked about where to locate the new frenched in cadillac tail lights and about re-wiring the steering column.

Worked a little on the 61 hood and re-wired the running lights with a new harness from Tuckers.

Installed the new wiring harness and relays for the heavy duty headlight wiring.

And talked a little about what the process was going to be to put the big back window in place.

Going on 10 weeks at the body shop that said it would take 3 weeks.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

McCoyAZ,
Heck that's not bad. Several years ago I dropped off a 62 Pontiac at a local Maaco for some very minor body work and a complete paint job, not your $399 cheapo job either the $2000.00 poly base/clear coat. I had stripped all the chrome, door handles, grille, tail lights, trim etc. I also was told 2 weeks. It took them over 7 months and I went there weekly to check the progress. A coworker had his 34 Plymouth at a body shop for over a year and was just told they are closing shop and to come get his unfinished/unpainted car and the body shop has the car in pieces. It can be worse just keep on them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Thanks to a new friend and fellow member, I scored a nice original inside rear view mirror for my 64 at a salvage yard in Salt Lake City. It needs some scrubbing and buffing but I could not beat the price, under $5.00 and original GM.

Was the inside rear view an option in 1964? My truck does not have any holes for the mirror screws. The PO used a stick on the windshield type.
