I took the cab off the frame and go the frame all stripped down. Off to the galvanizer today and then powder coating tomorrow. I love the the perks of being and autocad guy for a steel manufacturer.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Got a couple of things done today.
Installed my TA Performance rear end girdle on my rebuilt differential with 3:73 gears and Eaton Posi-Trac. I had to bend the Porter Built Trac bar to make it fit.

Wow that girdle makes the rear end look very businesslike! And the gauges are both beautiful and unique. Nice work.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Yesterday I replaced my dead compressor and today I pulled the snow tires off the front and reinstalled the five spokes. Hopefully the rears will get swapped tomorrow after I have a nail puncture patched.

NICE! Where did you get that gauge package??
I can't find much for our GMC's and gauges are one of those things.
I did order my KP Watts link for one of the 63's...
Looking to make it handle.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Brought my truck home! It was shipped up to the Canada/US border from Arkansas, and I trailered it back to my place. It is FILTHY. Completely covered in road sand, they must have run into some weather on the way. Now the fun begins!

In the daylight, pretty dirty.

I think I will need new bed wood!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I created a file in Adobe Illustrator file ( a graphics program) matching the Dakota Digital gauge set and then had a sign shop laser cut the flat dash panel. I had a friend machine the bezels to fit the openings.
The gauges are meant for a 1964-67 Pontiac GTO, Lemans, Tempest VHX Instruments VHX-64P-GTO in carbon fibre with red numbers and lights.
The nice thing about the gauges are that they are all one unit and you run just 1 CAT5 wire from the gauges to a control box that mounts down by the fuse panel. I cut the centre section out of a stock gauge panel just leaving the outer trim ring.
The 4 gauges are all together in one module which made it really easy to fit into the opening in the dash. Other then cutting up the original gauge panel which was damaged anyways by the previous owner, there was no other cutting.

Bought a stud welder...finally!

I got a kickin' deal from someone who bought it, used it for 5 pins and then never touched it again.

Now, I can get the hood smoothed out.

Steven, Best tool I ever bought, although "I" did not use it, the guys in the pics used the tool at $25.00 per hr. to get the dents out. BTW the cab went under 12 feet of water. BUT if you get the harbor freight like I did, you will replace the vicegrip tool quick.

About 20min east of Ottawa.

Fired up the truck today, drove it up and down the driveway, and pressure washed it to get the sand/salt/grime off it. Looks a lot better. I'll shoot more pics soon!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Got all my brakes finished. Replaced all the hardware except the backing plates and lines. Shoes, hardware kits, drums, wheel cylinders, and master cylinder. I also added self adjuster mechanisms to all four wheels.

I better not feel my foot hit the floor board again. lol

I gotta plan for the slide hammer. Gonna take the grip head off it and weld it to the screw part of a pair of vice grips. That way I can use any size stud and also pull nails, cotter pins, etc.

Being poor is the mother of invention.

I welded a nut(1/2 fine thread on mine) to the vise grips and screwed in the slide hammer. I can unscrew it and use the other attachments. I don't have a stud gun. I tack welded 8d nails to the sheet metal. A little slower that a stud gun but it works just fine.

I bolted my new tag on yesterday.

Only the 2nd tag it's had since I bought it almost 10 years ago... yikes! I've had it that long?
