just the frame clearance is the difference, I have long tube headers for the elco that you can borrow and test fit if you want

Well I'm runnin long tube hooker headers now and eventually I'm going to go lower with the truck so mid length is my preference

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Anybody ever heard of taking a th350 and lowering the drive gear 400rpm so that it acts like an overdrive? Then adjusting 1st and 2nd to shift properly? I might go this rout and save 1,000$ also trying to work a deal on a better motor 96-2000 base

I have never heard of this but sounds interesting. Is it something that is done at a shop where you're at?

It has something to do with the valve body and its the same guy we always take our transmissions to and I guess he's done this method on quite a few already with no issues. Honestly I love my th350 and if he can make it produce a bit better mileage I'm down for about a third the price of a 700r swap

Going to have to do a lot more than mod the valve body to change the gear ratio on a transmission... Def. keep us updated on the cost to do this though, I happen to have a 350 lying around that might otherwise be junk!

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Not much info gained. A few of these transmissions have been heard about and apparently they are a good way to go so probably leaning that way just to try it out and if it dont work ill stick my good TH350 back in.

As far as the motor goes looking less likely to get it because of seller's worries. Who knows maybe I'll show up with cash for it next saturday and he'll change his mind it's only been sitting around for 6 years + or more

On a good note trucks running just fine no leaks at all and the console and new/ol steering wheel are so comfy im starting to fall asleep zzzzzz maybe I need a little more peppy motor so I dont fall asleep at the wheel
