Awesome build. I've been doing research into a 5.3 swap for my 72 K10 and your thread will help big time. Can't wait to your truck finished.

Re: Crash's 72 K10

Picked up the Hood, Fenders, and inner Fenders from Kyle today.. They looked incredible…. Hopefully they still do.. I have not opened up the boxes to look yet…

After I unloaded the fenders I decide to install the engine wiring harness bulkhead plate.. Once again , thanks Mike.. I know this one took some time…

I think it looks great….

After that I installed the door wire looms in preparation for installing the fenders…

Re: Crash's 72 K10

That bulkhead plate is pretty clever.
What's that last pic? Inside the door?
What's the door jamb wiring for?

Can't wait to see the fenders on. Making lots of progress now.

Thanks Steve.. The plate really turned out nice..

For whatever reason I decided to add remote door locks.. the wire looms will protect the wires..

Hopefully I will have the fenders on soon...

Re: Crash's 72 K10

Got the Master Cylinder and Steering Column installed. I am still amazed how much time it is taking to get the cab built out.. I had a lot of wiring already done.. or so I thought.. I think I am close to putting the soldering iron up..

Bolted the high hump down.. I used a butyl based sealant

Then I decide to remove the glove box to better secure the defroster and AC vent hoses..

Somehow a chuck of the paint came loose.. I am sure it was something I did.. just not sure what...… Hopefully Kyle can fix it…

Pictures of the hoses… There ain’t much room left in there… after you add the AC stuff and the PCM wiring..

Re: Crash's 72 K10

Started the morning out with installing some sound dampening pad I got from Classis Parts of America. It was relatively inexpensive. I was worried that the carpet would not go up the firewall high enough to hide the aluminum FATMAT and thought this would cover the aluminum. Turns out the Trimparts Carpet runs up the firewall high enough to hide it… I am still glad I put this down as well..

Next I installed the Trimparts carpet.. Thanks Kyle for pointing me this direction.. It fit perfect..

After that I reinstalled the glove box and glove box door.. I think the mystery of the chipped paint is solved. It looks like the glove box door may have been too close to the dash and pinched it causing the paint to chip. I attempted to readjust the door, but it is still very close..

Next I bolted on the fenders… They survived the 100 mile trip without issue… They look absolutely incredible.. Great job by Kyle…

A few more dash pictures that I took outside.. Pictures really do not do the paint justice..

Somehow I broke the parking brake cable.. not sure how.. I think it must have been defective.. I will give inline tube a call tomorrow..

Very important that you make sure everything is grounded.. Battery to Engine – Engine to Frame – Frame to Cab – Frame to Radiator support. I had them all covered except for the Frame to Cab

One final dash pic…

Great progress Mark.

Quick question, how's the clearance between the kick panel speaker and the e-brake pedal? Did you have to make any modifications to the pedal assy?

I bent the pedal about a 1/2" at the bottom of the pedal.. I has about a 1 1/2" clearance now..

LOL.. I guess I might need to take a break.. The paint chip hurt the worse.. Kyle (screaminchevypickup) put a lot of work into making the dash look good, and I jacked it up in seconds..

The brake cable can be replaced.. It had to be defective..

I agree black is the right color..

Re: Crash's 72 K10

Hey Mark. It's coming together Nicely. Paint looks great. Thank god you did this right before me. Believe you me, I am forever indebted. So much good info and you saved me a lot of returned parts in the next couple of months.

I was wondering if you ever found an answer to the doug thorly ls swap header question. I was just over at that post and saw your question. I was thinking of buying these headers myself, but looks like you never bought them. Do you think they would fit now that you have a lot of your truck back together?

BTW, want to sell your texas blaster?

Chris

Thanks Chris.. I never did get an answer on the headers.. I decide to move on with the stock manifolds.. I think I could install them now.. if they would fit.. there is plenty of room..

I better hang on to the baster for the next project... besides shipping to Maryland would be a killer...
