Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

7-6 Not a whole lot to report. Been strapped for cash and summer events. Also my other vehicles have been killing me. Finally got my 51' inspected again. They made me run my exhaust out the bed, so now Im going to have to do the same for the 49'. Since money is tight I got enough stainless to maybe do one side. Hoping once I redo exhaust and get this wiper motor conversion done, I can take it to get inspected.

I got the windshield in for final time. Got inside trim in. Started on door trim, its fitting really bad because of the new window track, so its been a pain.

had the 51' over at the 49's garage, always like getting shots of these two. Gonna one day line up all my trucks for some pics.

the wiper motor is out of a 99 explorer rear window wiper. Got it on ebay for 20 bucks so figured its worth a little effort than to drop 200 plus for a kit I'm not even that happy with.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

why'd they make you move your exhaust? Was it the same inspection place as before?

As much as folks want to make fun of Cali, that is the nice thing. Once the vehicle is registered, nothing else is needed. If it's newer than 1976 then it needs smog. Granted you can get fix-it tickets during traffic stops but no routine inspections.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

iowa- In PA I'm not sure when the law changed on exhaust, but some guys don't care if it dumps in the bed or not. In PA I reg my trucks as daily drivers, so I need annual inspection. I'm thinking of looking into classic plates, might not need the inspections then, not sure. I can't get antique plates cause my trucks are modified. With antique plates you reg it once and your good for life, just can't drive much or drive at dark with those plates.

Id have my 49' inspected this weekend, but I need to do exhaust over now. that and wipers, so I'm hoping next weekend I can get it inspected.

99 - in PA classic registration still requires a safety inspection just not emissions. Antique registration needs no inspection at all. I have my 55 first series registered as an antique and it is heavily modified. I just do t drive it much and it was registered like that when it was all original.

Read your last build and saw you put in a 12v electric wiper motor that came as a kit, what were you not happy about with it?

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

Hussey, I have the Newport wiper kit. For the money I'm just not a huge fan. Its ok, but gets annoying turning them off and on because they are either too fast or too slow, maybe its just cause I have a 2 speed switch. Perhaps I could get a variable speed switch?

yah PA is somewhat uptight on inspections and registration etc. For daily vehicles they have emissions toward the bigger cities, truck registrations jumped up to $58 for small ones and $83 for bigger trucks, inspection for a truck is now almost $50. They raised title fees too, everything just went waaaay up, not a little but a lot.

99 I pay either $180 or $210 a year now to register my GMC 2500HD. It is ridiculous.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

7-13

Getting close to wrapping this thing up. Just really stretching out my time and money. Got steering wheel painted, fixed my tach. Put a moch up speedo gauge in until I can do that conversion.

Got one side of exhaust re routed. Not really sold on any location ( under running board, side of bed, bottom of fender or through filler pan, so.... I kinda
don't mind it dumping at the back of the fender. I'll prolly trim it down when its all on. Eventually I'm going to move rear end forward 1".

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

Got my little adjustable wiper end in the mail today. Thanks to my friend shannon. I'm sure alot of you are aware of him on here. Though we are using very similar wiper motors, mine will probably mount a little different than his. Once I get it all rigged up I'll post photos of both applications.

Nice piece. Does shannon sell to others? Is there park on that motor?

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

I'm sure he would custom make these for folks. The motor is just one speed and self parks when power is off I do believe. I haven't wired mine up. I got this one off ebay for 20 bucks. There is another motor you can use and get brand new for like 30 bucks shipped. He sent me a link to his motor running. Seems nice. I'll post video when I get mine all hooked up.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

7-27 Good god I been stuck in the 3rd base to home rundown for months. I should most likely be hitting the inspection station friday or monday. Then onto a couple months of shakedown. Got some interior to finish but its getting there.

Had to rerun my exhaust do to PA inspection, doesn't allow them to dump under bed. Speaking of bed, got my wood on. Its removable.

Gonna install and AC/heat unit but not hook up AC, need to do speedo conversion, install radio, do carpet and behind the seat cover and that will be
pretty much the jist of the final touches.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

thanks guys, yeah almost there for months!!! just tallied up my preliminary costs and I'm a little over budget on that and time, but oh well. I'll drive this as much as I can till fall, then it is up for sale. I'v planned on a build to sell for years and this has been a total span of almost 2 years (several months of dash and engine work) then about 1.5 years on everything else, on a consistent schedule of about 3days a week, and about 800 hours for everything. I'm looking forward to getting another one on the road, gonna be a long journey.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

Right on dude. Just went through the whole thread and its looking great!!

I'll basically have the same suspension set up on mine aside from a few things. I have an older Ridetech AirBar some lower SuicideDoors arms with swaybar and shock mounts, speedway uppers and Belltech 2102 blazer spindles.

Cant wait to get moving on my project!

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

8-7 FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY another big stepping stone off the list. Gotta wrap up a few interior things, do the speedo conversion and log some miles then its on its way to a new home.

made a little commercial thingy that shows the 49' toward the end. I'll be making some better vids, when I get better footage. Just kinda used what I had, luckily it was enough to even get this far.
