Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?
I tried to figure out a starter issue (I think I need a shim kit) and I started the swap to my new Boss 338 wheels.

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?
Well... officially it starts. Just sounds like grinding metal on the starter when it does. Anybody have thoughts on a remedy?
Thanks!

Took a quick cruise around the former Uniroyal tire factory - million sq ft brick complex. Much cooler than these pics capture.

Started building the stereo and interior side panels, more tuning of the VE tables of the LQ4 6 liter, and took the family for ice cream.

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?
It was last Friday not today , I drove to work and stopped at the local Friday night cruise-in on my way home. I always get there late . They start at 5 and I get out of work around 6:45 . Sometimes they are leaving as soon as I get there.

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?
I’ve done the same for mine already as well. I blew the half ton axles twice and finally had to upgrade.

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?
I finally started cuttin out rust today. The more I remove, the more I find! Can someone tell why the Torsion boxes are named that way and what they do? One of mine is missing and the other has a lot of rust.
Pete, glad to see this theead is going so well. First place I go.

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?
The torsion boxes help keep the body aligned when the truck starts getting twisted up off roading. Without them you would not have good door openings as the body would basically start crushing itself in the middle. The tortion boxes and the rockers is what keeps the center of the truck stable.

So I just started this floor/rocker rebuild. Another thread said to get everything else done and do the boxes last. Dont I need to have them at the same time I do my rockers?

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?
Finally added a stereo to the Jimmy. Put a retrosound unit (Hermosa, I think) in the dash. It's too shiny, so I'm going to try to maybe cut off/use some of the faceplate from the original radio dial to cover it.
My Jimmy didn't have any speakers or interior panels when I got it, so I made up some quick rear panels from some scrap 1/4" plywood that I had. I built a heavier 1/2" plywood structure behind them to house the 6x9 JBL speakers, and covered everything in grey felt. I put some aluminum angle behind them, which is riveted to the floor to support the bottom edges. While I was in there, I also put some some sheets of sound deadening, and then more felt over the wheelwells. The previous owner put in some bedliner which was really scratchy, and rocks hitting the wheelwells were really loud, this improved both situations. I put in a 12" Sundown SA-12 in a box that I build behind the seat, and a couple amps under the back seat to drive it all (An old Sony xplod 50w x 4 for the front and rear speakers, and a MTX1000.1 for the sub). I got the typical plastic kick panels for the front, which were kinda ugly. I had to space the speakers outward so I routed up some MDF rings, added sound deadening to the plastic, and then covered it all with the same felt. Matching GTO series JBL component 6.5s up front. It all sounds great, and can completely drown out the wind and motor noise at any speed ![]() |
