Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

I have a question about door glass, I have all new hardware and glass. The glass won't stay in the forward felt strip which I think it should.

When it move out of the forward felt it just goes wherever it wants. What am I missing?

Thanks,

Don't worry about the flash. It will all come together and look great. I did the same thing in my interior, except tan interior and tan door panel. My truck is red and about the only bling is the chrome on the bumpers and grill. I like a simpler, less cluttered look. Your paint is beautiful and that is bling aplenty!

Agreed, I like the metal door panels but I don't like the "Tin Can" aspect of these trucks. The covering will help with that and provide some contrast.

It will also have a head liner that will dampen the roar.

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

I read you got your door replacement material from GMC Pauls.. Did you get the rubber for the door/window there also?.. Specifically I'm interested in knowing how the rubber seal for the wing window fits between the wing and the bottom to the outside of the door.. I've read that some of these rubber replacement set's dont fit to well and leave a gap,, which would leave a opening for weather to drain right into the inside of the door. If so do you know the kit order number?

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

The only thing I got from GMC Pauls was the press on rubber door seals and they are great. All of the remaining parts and window felts came from LMC.

I ordered a complete replacement vent window kit from LMC as well and have been happy with its fit so far. The way I see it the entire door is made to funnel the rain into the door and out the bottom. The only thing I have at the door glass is two strips of felt that are for glass protection and maybe rattle protection.

But as has been clearly discovered I am NO DOOR EXPERT!

Thats my point... It seems I havent been able to find a rubber seal that fits like the OEM ones that covered that gap so water diverted off to the outside.. I'm sure theres one out there, I just havent found it yet.

I used the rubber part of a window seal off a late model seal I bought at a yard sale.
I took the C10 felts and sandwiched the rubber between the felts and the sheet metal.. the rubber worked like a seal AND a wipe.
No idea what the yards sale parts were, but, the person that sold them said they were either Honda or ford

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

I'm sure I will get caught in the rain at some point, but this will be a weekend and evening driver into town so the only time it will see water is when I wash it.

Typically around hear if there is a chance of rain there is a good chance of hail so I will be watching that closely for sure

The new doors have some nice sized drains in the bottom and I live in a very low humidity climate so for me the original design is not an issue since it's not a daily driver.

It definitely could be improved on for sure.

The vent window rubber should fit outside the outer door skin. The rubber should be long enough to do that. Loosen up the frame and starting at one end pull the rubber flap that is inside your door to the outside. If there is not enough rubber to do so then you probably have an inferior product or your window frame isn't installed correctly.
I got all my window rubber from Precision Restoration and they worked fine although they are a little pinched in a couple of spots and I still pull and tweak them into place once in awhile.

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

The front and top of the vent window seals nicely but the more towards the rear you move it gets more open. I have some tweaking to do to it but I don't think it will seal all the way to the vertical rail and the door has a notch and no seal at that point anyway.

Did some adjusting on the vent window seal, the seal is fixed at the bottom next to the vertical rail and can't be pulled up, thus the gap
