Re: post up your camping pics
not sure when the orig tunnel was built (late 1800's maybe?), but they left the first timber framed tunnel and put this concrete one over it later in '49. i climbed up to the roof and could see the orig tunnel threw a bunch of holes. don't ya just love (NOT) the fairy little graffitti some loser did on our history.....
when they stopped using the line, for safety's sake (?) they tried to blow the mountain down over the tunnel, which didn't really work so they filled up the tunnel instead, again for safety, their theory they will never be liable if the tunnel falls in on some poor slob walking threw it. now, you have to do an extremely dangerous climb over the tunnel, which i guess they figure is safer (?) as you can see, extremely steep and loose ground every step going up beside the tunnel |

Re: post up your camping pics
as you can see it's pretty much strait up and down
there is no way you could climb this loose dirt without the wire strung up there not a lot of room at the top, got to watch my son on this loose stuff- prob about 350 feet down to the creek..... |

Re: post up your camping pics
i'm guessing around 350 feet cause there is the bridge, it's around 250 feet off the creek and we're 'bout a 100 feet above it

Re: post up your camping pics
unfortunately this was as far as i could let my son go. he's got quite a collection of conquered peaks and is real agile and good in the bush, but it was a reverse slope with a real loose surface going directly into a 350 ft fall down the mountain, with no gear to stop. belive me, it is worse than it photo's.
we tried everything we could, but that slope was just too slippery. we even tried going up over what was left over the tunnel, but we only got as far as the trees up there, the whole side of the mountain has come down, also took out part of the lose slope trail, we're not going to cross it without a rope |

Re: post up your camping pics
i've been climbing mountains and roofs for 40 yrs, so i slid myself down to the slide and got some bridge pics. my son was very disappointed, can't blame him, we got right to it.......
so close, yet so far.....we will be coming back with some of my safety gear from work. dont know if i could handle having my son tumble down the mountain to his death, especially with school startin' tomorrow.... |

Re: post up your camping pics
come across this...
we hiked 2/3's of the way back to the truck and then found this. we actually went back to the tunnel a second time, but it was too short, and when i tested it, it just snapped in half. if we only had had a rope with us.... cooling the feet and refilling water bottles in Ladner and when we got home, well we could'nt get home. our house is like a block from where a rv slammed into a house and ruptured a gas line. we had to wait about 45 mins http://www.theprogress.com/news/gas-...neighbourhood/ |

Re: post up your camping pics
Here's a quick report of a run I made a couple of weeks ago with some friends, my wife and son as well as my Nephew. He's in the Black Rubicon and had not wheeled off road as a driver before. He's ridden with me, but never drove so he wanted to come out with us.
We hit 3 trails over three days. Day one, Tincup pass. Day two, Reno Creek/Italian Divide. Day three, Pearl Pass. Each day the trail got progressively harder. The other two rides with us are friends of ours, the red Jeep we had just added a 2.5" lift and a fresh clutch a month earlier. Other than that it's stock with a 4 banger and open diffs front and back. The Yellow TJ is loaded with ARB's front and back and all the other goodies. Re: post up your camping pics
Great pics, Rob! K5 looks like it is doing exactly what you want. I'm expecting to see a write up on that FWC pretty soon as well as Desert Trip.

The FWC has been something I've been searching for a very long time. I'll update the build thread with some new info. I need to finish wiring up the report for the desert trip. I'll I can say is it was epic. Most fun I've had on 4 wheels. That says a lot as I've done a lot of stuff with 4 wheels. Quote:

I can see them all on my end. Might be vista. Funny you can see some but not all as they are all on Flickr.

Re: post up your camping pics
this is where you have to grab onto the wire to get up over the tunnel. we abandoned dawg here and told him to stay. of course he did'nt, just as i made the top, turned around to see dawg stuck halfway up. had to climb down with him. if he had'nt had had his operation, i'm sure he could have made it...
like i said, it's a long ways down on a real loose surface |

Re: post up your camping pics
pretty steep and lots of loose shale type rock. not the place to lose your kid...
here's the slide across the "trail" steep, really lose, and a long ways down. we had lots of small rocks and dirt falling down on us. again, not really the place to lose yer kid.... son is part mountain goat, thinking i might worry a little too much... |

Re: post up your camping pics
and coming to the other end of the tunnel, another major drop off right here, and lose stuff. the mountain has also been sliding down in front of the tunnel- never used to be like this
normally heights are nothing for my son, but it is a long ways down, right around 250 feet or so... |

Re: post up your camping pics
went out to the middle, disappointed my son again. i felt we had been pushing it on the mountain, and really did not want him slipping off the rail. these are unforgiving heights, not the same as tumbling down a mountain....
was also glad dawg had not attempted to come up again, so when he spied this scraggly little guy, i let him chase it up a tree... and back at the Ladner bridge |

Bombtram is an awesome place to ride, big hills, old logging roads and snowmobile trails all over...
