I saw that on there website, and when I talked to him (Phil at BRP) he told me I would need one for this swap. But then I read that in the 68-87 trucks the LS truck/SUV oil pan fit like it was made for it. So do I need one or not?

NO!! screw Phil... ive talked to him also and he doesnt know ANYTHING about these swaps. he'll make crap up if asked a direct question. i wont be doing business with him even if his stuff was free. and we all know his stuff is far from free...

sorry if this is harsh and probably seems out of character for me but it is what it is. i call'em how i see'em.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

sorry bro. the more i think about the conversation we had and what he's telling you it just gets me torqued up.

i hate people trying to get over on others and i hate people(especially business's) giving out wrong info about something they have no idea about.

anyways, no. you wont need their pan. Bob's changing his because he lives in 4 by country and he's lowering the truck more. the pan hangs anywhere between 1-2" below the front xmember. hopefully in the next couple day(weather permiting) i can give you an exact measurement.

Hey man no problem. That is why I never went to see him, the more I talked to him and the more I read the post from all the people on these treads, I felt just like you. You guys have nothing to gain for the info you put on these boards just putting out lessons learned to people trying to follow in your foot steps and learning from your mistakes. And I for one really appreciate it.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

There is a reason my thread hit 50 pages. Nuttin but good info, gather by a whole bunch of good people for EVERYONES use, and for FREE!!

Yeah, I'm planning on putting my own kit together and yeah, I plan on making a profit from it. But anyone with an internet connection can and will be able to see for themselves that whatever I do, works. And if they don't want to buy what I plan on making, there is more than enough info and options on here for them to do for free. And if that's the route they go, I will help them. For free.

Dennis is right about the pan. The ONLY reason I am considering swapping is because I want to go about 1-2" lower, 2" max though. The stock 06 truck pan hangs 2-1/2" below the crossmember. As is, it's no problem at all. There is no speed bump or curb that scares me. There is also no clearance problems. BUT..... if you move the engine forward from where I put mine (by using different adapter plates than I did), you might have problems with the back of the crossmember. Then again, you might not. I can only verify what I did.

Phil can bite us all. His kit may require the use of the LH8 pan kit, and his kit may very well be designed that way. Easy profit if you make a kit that requires another kit that requires yet another kit in order for it to work.

Aaaaw, it's getting all warm and fuzzy in here. Now, Dennis, enough playing on the computer, we all want to see that LQ9 in the chassis man.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

just read up on this whole thread. lots of good info here. I'm actually kind of overloaded!
Just a few things I noticed and would like to mention.

I love those HO emblems on the engine cover, I think you should try and leave those on and remove the caddy emblems.

Also I saw you ask how to verify your tranny is a 4l80E and no one answered you. I am sure you have figured out by now it is, but for future reference the 60E doesn't have the center-upper bell housing bolt that yours(the 80E) has.

Lastly, I am glad to hear about your loan. Surely you can find somewhere to spend that money you save every month.

I will be following your progress and am excited to see what is next.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

right on man! thanks...

ok Josh, progress is progress right? i know this is minimal at best but today i fixed my front center link and tie rod ends that i installed wrong. (thanks to Jonboy and Super Bob) i also took off the fuel system lines. and... ready for this!? i UNBOLTED THE TORQUE CONVERTER! in the morning i'm going to ship off my frc's to Gerald so he can give them the smooth treatment and maybe? paint them body color. then i'm going to clean and paint the tranny.

think this will work???... paint the top of the tranny and mate it with the motor. then lift the motor/trans with the hoist and finish painting the bottom pans of both motor and trans together. then take the tranny pan off to drain and replace filter. then sit motor in chassis...

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I would just clean the trans pan really well and not even paint it. I dont know if it's the metal they're made of or what but the last two I painted peeled shortly after, primer and all??? Or maybe look into one of those aluminum trans pans that are finned and work as a trans cooler? Those are pretty sick. Definately clean and paint the oil pan like you were talking about with it hanging from the hoist. Glad you made some progress today! Better find some pics before the picture police come around though.
