That'll run good...and roller rockers will just make things all that much smoother to. I know there is an adapter made...Twisted6 can tell you more about it than I can.

Although I just received an original Canadian 1965 GMC that states the 230 is the base engine for that year. The 292 and 283 were the only options in a light duty truck.

So I always thought the engine was a 250 since that's what my father said and the block number is 3850817, which is correct for a 250.

So I checked the crankshaft last night and the number is 3788424 which is listed for a 194 or a 230.

So I am pretty sure my truck has a 230 in it. It sucks to "lose" 20 cubic inches but I like the idea of using the original engine to the truck.

You could always put a 250 crankshaft in that engine. The 230 and 250 both used the same block. Both have bores of 3.875. Changing the crankshaft to a 250 crank would give you a longer stroke....therefore...using the stock block...but secretly having a longer stroke...that and your .060 overbore...heck...you do some head work and a cam...and I'll give you a race fer yer money when my hotrod 292 is done!

My literature shows GM casting #3850817 as 1962-1978 230 or 250. So it probably is a 230 and original.

You can change the crank out for the 250 like he said , BUT you will also have to use the 250 pistons Or the 307s. Other wise if you use the 230s piston they will stick out the top of the Deck. due to the wrist pin height difference.

I'll think about the 250 crank in the 230 block.

Since I plan to buy forged pistons anyway, I guess I just need them for a 250.

I guess I could use 307 ones but aren't the different from other small block chevy pistons?

The 307 piston can be used in our 250. As the 283 pistons can be used in our 230s. Both pistons have the same Bore, But different wrist pin height.

Here is my 55 235. Nothing but issues with these carbs from Tom L. Was only able to drive it for 2 weeks after working on the truck since 1995. Now it parked again waiting for a solution.

Nice looking 235! Those are Weber 32/36 carbs? Yeah..they're a pain in the ***** but once tuned to the last percent they run wonderfully.

Not a fan of the 32/36. Just installed one on the 50 project and glad I kept the stock carb.
Clifford has a couple new ideas, check their site.

Carbs are the 32/32 ones. Tom and I both agreed that one was bad when i started to have issues with them. Then a week later the other started to act funny. I ordered two more from him as im desperate to get the truck running so i can drive it out to store it for the winter.

Not going to hijack this thread about my carbs but if anyone is willing to help and see what issues I am running into please look into this link. Possibly you guys can shed some light on my issues.

Hey guys! Can I bring this thread back to life? Just got my 292 finished up and is on the dyno as I type. I had the motor built by Larry's Power up in groton Ct. Theses are the same guys that built Santucci's Hybrid head 292. The first pull on the dyno showed 285 HP, before we have done any tweaking! Motor is full blue print, 40 over,T. Lowe cam, lumps,rockers etc. etc. My full build thread is over on the pre 47 side. Any ways here some eye candy.

310 ft pounds on the first pull. They only had time to do a couple of initial pulls today. I am going up on Monday a we will tinker with it some more and then bring her on home.

Dang man I am soooo stinking jealous! LOL! Mine is almost done as well. 285 hp and 310 torque is close to what mine is supposed to be....What pistons did you go with? Looks good man! Happy daynoing! And I expect to see some videos of this thing running.

Hey TJ! We used custom Ross pistons. Not the ones T Lowe sells. Larry's had their own custom ones cut.

Thanks! Man it looks good! Making me really excited to get my 292 back. What dish depth are the pistons? Mine are also ross forged aluminum and the depth of the dish on mine is .209. Nice work man.

Great build you got there and I see you have my T6G2 lump kit. Those guys Do GREAT work. Nice job on the photo's of the build. It will be nice to hear run and what the final numbers come out to be.

Thanks Twiste6. If I am not mistaken the timing cover is yours as well (Mrhotrod). Had some issues with the cover though. Had to take some material off to get the balancer from Walt Pearce to fit.

Your Welcome No the cover is not mine. And I am not Mrhotrod6 But we do a lot together one way or another. Sorry you had to do so trim on the cover.
By any chance did you let Mrhotrod6 know? I know he has not had any issue's with the cover ,But it just maybe just a inter-face issue with that dampener.
