I like your "shop art". I wonder how long it will take till it is sitting on the lift.

Any one want to start taking bets?

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Just re-read this whole thread from day one.........

Again have to bow to you and your family, your skills and work ethic.

Ohh, and the donkeys, showed Nicola the pics and she was all over the iPad.

Looking forward to picking up my jaw repeatedly........

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Wow Rian, you must have been really bored to have re-read this again.

Seriously, thanks for the props...it means a lot to us.

The donkeys are like puppies, in and out of the shop looking for attention every chance they get. Too bad Nicola isn't coming on this next trip stateside...a treat or two and the donkeys will be your friends for life. Maybe next time...

We're looking forward to your visit...only a few short weeks left!

Working on the sides now, the final finish will be close to what the verticals are...except varnished.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Thanks L50!

Not much to add, but we did rough finish out the remaining bed sides...all edges are routered. My son is NOT looking forward to all the sanding they're going to take to finish out!

That wood working looks sweet! By the way, if you find any other shop art like that, let me know! I'd love to have a model A coupe. (Like I really need another distraction)

Thanks DW! The 29 is shop art because it's really too far gone to easily rebuild...if you were a sucker for punishment, then maybe.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

We've been slowly working on the cab sheet metal, filling seams, holes, and making it all one piece. Maybe get it to our paint guy in a few weeks...

Also working on tying the inner fenders into the cab...we're removing almost all the bolts and welding/smoothing all the holes/seams we can get to.

Lots of welding.
Looks good when the fenders and cab are one piece.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Amazing progress Phil.

Your welding does look like a welders work. I would love to clean up my engine bay a bit but have very little idea where to close and where to hold.

Less than two weeks before we fly out.

I am expecting Martin here in the next hour to help me lift off my bed, then flip the cab so I can get to the underside and chassis to paint and underseal.
Then later in the day I need to get to his place as he is acid washing his chassis for the POR15 but needs to move it out into his back yard first so he can pressure clean the acid afterwards. Then get it back into his carport so he can start painting. Gonna be a busy day for both of us.

Smoothed/cleaned some more in the engine bay, smoothed the dash/A pillar welds, and finally finished sanding all the paint off of the hood.
