Re: how about some pics of 60-66 long beds

I've probably posted mine in this thread in the past but here it is again. Mine is a 66 C20, and unlike most everyone I didn't want a lowered truck. So mine has all new 3/4 ton springs, 31" BFG's and a front yard paint job(hvlp). This was my work truck up until a yr ago, tool boxes, compressor, guns etc. Nothin special but it always got attention on job sites. Before and after shots.

Thanks, I like yours too, matter if fact I like all of them in different conditions and stages of builds. My daughter and I had fun and made a lot of memories doing it. So much in fact that I picked up this 58 in January, we have a long way to go but here's what we've done so far. I like the long beds, maybe it's a construction thing.

Say, what paint did you use on the exterior to get that light blue? I'm looking for something very similar.

Nice job on the '66. No shame in not lowering. I've always been into lowered rides as well but decided to keep my '66 stock height. I really dig that '58 as well.

I took the original blue paint code to the local supplier and had a gallon of single stage mixed up. I sprayed my saw horses and it was a little too light so I got extra blue tint and added until my wife and daughter made me stop and that's the color. I think I added about 4oz of the blue tint. The white is Bombay ivory. This was only the second paint job I've ever done, and I painted it over the course of a couple weekends. I learned that outside temperature has a HUGE effect on paint. My paint flowed the best when it was about 60° outside. I painted the wheels, tool box and tailgate when it was 57° and they probably came out the best, no wetsanding needed . That's just my beginner experience. I used a medium harder and reducer, a finish line 4 gun and my 60gal compressor. Then wet sanded the snot out of it and went through the buffing compounds. It cost me about $425 in pant then another $100 in sandpaper and buffing compound. I had a quote from Earl schieb(cheap painter) for $2000, which was more than I wanted to spend on a cheapo paint job, so I just did it. I learned a lot and will paint the 58 myself as well, hopefully it will be even better.

No, no, that's exactly the level I needed! I'll start where you did with the paint code and tint, and go from there. Thanks!

Brought it home from NC this past spring. Mostly just driving it local. 4:11 gears. Lots of fun. Didn't know you were into these as well.

Nail pounder. Did you have the seat recovered or is that a cover that can be bought via catalogue?

Re: how about some pics of 60-66 long beds

I took the truck to a local upholstery shop in town and picked fabric to match my paint then brought just the seat to him. Its marine vinyl, he put new foam on it and fixed a couple springs as well. I think I paid around $500-525. I don't remember exactly. I'm happy with the durability and how easy it is to clean, just bust out a magic eraser and it looks new again. He did a great job and I will use him again for the '58.

I am thinking along those same lines. I am still not sure if I will look for something more original looking or color match. Yours looks fantastic.

Re: how about some pics of 60-66 long beds

Finished painting and almost all back together (tailgate). I still plan on painting the wheels red, painting scallops, and lowering it more. Unfortunately, the bed sides seem a little darker despite being painted at same time as other parts. I also plan to paint the steel bed I put in with white bedliner.
