Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
The new location for the shortened wing window track is pretty straight forward.
If my photos don't help watch Blackdiel's video http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=366078&page=4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iI5wEinY9E#t=213

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Now I am going to lengthen the window roller track/slider 3 1/2in. You will need to buy one roller track/slider from off of E-bay or some Classic online Chevy car/truck site. Note: Tri-5 Chevy cars window tracks are the same as the truck except for the screw holes. Don't worry about the holes, you will use the existing holes of your truck's roller track.
Again you only need one roller track/ slider for both doors. Just cut two 3 1/2in. sections and weld them to the ends of your original roller track/ sliders. VERY IMPORTANT: Weld the 3 1/2 in.extensions on to the end of the track/slider that has the screw hole hole 2 3/4in. from the end. Bevel the ends to be welded together for a stronger bond and good penetration.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Making modifications to the window mounting bracket & new glass vs old glass, will be in my next post.
But for those in a hurry here is where you can get quality 1-piece tempered door glass. I got mine for $55.00 each (for clear) ....tinted glass might be a little more. http://www.autocityclassic.com/ http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-1959-CH...VRSeSU&vxp=mtr

Here is some glass from AUTO CITY CLASSIC at a reasonable price if you got to get all the glass. They do one piece door glass, small back window & windshield combo, or big window back glass, or wing/vent window or tinted glass. Prices from $310.00 - 399.00. I paid $55 ea. for my one piece door glass. http://stores.ebay.com/autocityclass...56+CHEVY+TRUCK

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
The part that holds the glass needs to be modified. Before and after photos with old glass mounting bracket and new glass and rubber.

The rubber channel has a flap that mounts toward the outside to deflect the rain from going down into the door.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
When you do mock up of the one piece door glass to see how things fit in the door it's more than likely that you will need to enlarge or elongate the mounting holes (circled with a marker)for the window regulator in order to fine tune your adjustment.
Also sense these trucks are notorious for body panels and other parts not fitting right from the factory you may need to enlarge(slightly) the hole where the window hand crank mount.

I have had my fill of power windows & power door locks , I'm sick of them. I have replaced 1 p/w motor in my Suburban and 2 motors in my Ford EXPLODER But now there are complaints about the aftermarket manual window regulators for '49-'59 Ford and Chevy trucks not holding up. I guess the next time I go to a swap meet I will buy a couple of old ones just to be on the safe side.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Hey Green '59 thanks for the compliment & dropping by. I haven't given up on the truck, as I said before many other times, "Life happens" and I don't get to spend the time with it as I would like.
The up coming photos is where I'm at now .....kind of picking up where I last left off. The one piece door glass install. The left door glass is in and works gr8 and currently working on the right side. Also I have been working on my '67 El Camino another reason I am behind in getting my truck done.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
So I need to back track to explain how I screwed things up.
I did not know at the time when I sold my old wing/vent windows just like the one in the photo below that I would need some of the parts to make my new one piece windows work properly when I install them. So to fix my problem I went over to my friends house Donnie with the '57 Chevy truck with the Jag suspension I have been posting photos of on my page. I had to remove one of his vent windows to measure and take pictures of a part & make a card board template, I need to make for my truck. Then I went out and got some scrap metal and started the fab work and follow the directions posted by blackdiesel http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=366078&page=4 WELL "stupid is as stupid does" when I went to my friends house to measure the vent window channel parts I failed to measure the actual channel opening and width. Of course when it came time to put everything together it should have been no surprise certain things didn't fit right and the window did not roll all the way up. I will show what I did to fix it.
