Post Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I want a higher ratio so I'm not stuck at 55 MPH when I travel .

Truth be told , I rarely work my truck , I have me , myself and I in it most of the time , maybe my lunchbox , maybe a tool box and some old car / Moto parts .

Thumbs up Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Replaced the broken shock mount ~

Pix attached . not sure why I can't put text between each picture

Pic. # 1 shows the eye ripped out .

Pic # 2 shows me holding the new/used shock mount next to the bad one , Pic. # 3 shows the job all done , took about 35 minutes all told .

The DPO replaced the rear shocks and discarded the original hardware and fitted Metric bolts that were too thin so the shock was able to move a bit , in time this wallowed out the mount's eye and I ripped it out tearing up those back roads near Sequoia a few weeks ago (Google Ca. Rt. 245 , it's nice)

Then I got the new/used junkyard mounts , I grabbed not only the mounts but the big nuts that hold them on and all the shock bolts ~ this is why I don't patronize regular junkyards , they're sloppy and never save the hardware , all too often DPO's / DPM's are clueless and discard the better quality correct original hardware for shiny new junk .

Pretty much everything they touched on this poor old truck , they either did wrong or damaged , sometimes I think they didn't like working on it and deliberately damaged or screwed up everything they touched .

So far , the sintered steel exhaust donut hasn't leaked one bit , I'm well pleased as it's blown out quite a few since I bought this rig and the underhood puttering noise irritates me .

It rides nice and tight again , just so make sure I flew it across a couple intersections with rain control trenches and it was fine .

Sorry for the crappy pix , I was using my iPad thingie .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I put a seat cover on. The seat was re-done by the previous owner in bright red, so decided to change the look a little to suit my tastes.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Well I was hoping to dig in and get to cutting out rust in the rockers and doors, but instead helped my friends daughter move into her first apartment. about the time we finished up it started raining... No cutting and welding happened, so we hung out in the wood shop and polished off a bottle of JD Tennessee honey.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Painted two more "panels" this morning.
Tailgate and pass bedside.

I finished those two panels at 12:30. It was 102.
It went to 107 here today.

Two more tomorrow (driver's bedside and driver's front fender)
if I'm not dead.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

What a PAIN!!! "I finished" painting my (now) $87 paint job. Turns out one gallon of Tractor Supply Matte Black, my cheesy
spray gun from Orchard supply, an anemic 1.5hp 110V compressor, about sixty pounds of rags, good yellow 3M tape, a few tack
cloths, and a half gallon of lacquer thinner for cleaning (I even thinned some of the enamel with it....tsk, tsk....)

$30 for the paint, $57 for other supplies.

About twenty hours of masking (very "fussily"), pulling off emblems, etc., and sanding with 120 on some rough spots.

This is what ya get.
Not pro. But not too bad.

I didn't stir the paint enough the first load. When I did, the stuff went on slow and lumpy with my set up. I ended up with too many shades of black.

So, I stirred it up really well and added some laquer thinner to get the goo thru the gun with the pressure I had.

The panels are actually more consistent in color and texture than they look in the pics.

And I think it looks more than $87 better than the rattle can primer job I had on The Rat as of last week....hahahaha.

Thanks.....

No. I'm just gonna run it like this. I'm out of energy.

I still have another gallon of the paint.

Next time, I'll wash it, thin the matte black with some hardener, and re-shoot it all at once. Maybe it will be worth clearing then. Maybe not.

But this chore made my old bones (and muscles) too tired to even think about the next time.

Another very good home paint job ! .

I've been watching these for over a decade , it's not only do - able , it's fairly simple and if you take the time to prep it right ,you'll be well rewarded .
