Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Started removing the purple window tint. Razor blade scraped the tint film off. Lacquer thinner and a towel took care of the glue residue. I was pleased to discover the windows have factory tint and all the glass looks to be OEM.

Installed the 327 in the truck this evening. Everything on the bottom installed and hooked up. Hoping to bring it to life tomorrow evening.

Bent and installed brake lines from the new master. First time doing it, but I think it turned out pretty good.

Engine started right up! So glad I decided to upgrade to power steering. No leaks. Engine runs smooth.

Looks great in there and after having PS now I can relate. The steering wheel is too big now.

Started varnishing my bed wood. After a year of working on the truck I am getting close to hitting the road again. I wish I had started a build thread.

I love all the period correct accoutrements! That is what I am always on the look out to use with my truck.

That is the identical truck my uncle bought brand new and ran it until well after he retired. I would grab that one in a heartbeat as his truck is the reason I love these trucks.

Thanks!

Yeah, it's a project. The truck as is runs, stops (slowly), most things seem to work, frame is solid, engine has been replaced at some point, most body work is solid. It apparently had some sort of professional undercoat applied earlier in it's life. It is flaking off now, but the metal underneath looks 45 years younger.

Has a little rust in the usual places, some unique electrical wiring, oozes fluids here and there, but overall a decent start. Initial plan is to get it safe and drive it, and plan the next steps.

Very Very nice truck. Starting restorations with a good truck is half the battle. You really see progress with all the things you fix . Have fun and good luck. I have a question about the upper side molding on your truck. Is the chrome all chrome or does it have the black strip in the centre? I have been trying to find out if they make a solid chrome style. Have a good day.

Thanks Jim Boy,

The upper side molding on my truck does have the black strip, although with 50 years of age on it. I wonder: since Mar-K makes these moldings new with the black strip, would they be willing to make a set without the strip?
