Thanks for the tip. I'll get in touch with them and ask a lot of questions. Enough on the computer, get working on the beast.

Engine out.....drum brake front end down. Got some clean up accomplished and some rust conversion sprayed. The last cross member bolt......the LAST one.....broke on me....lol. Pry bar and gravity and she dropped. Found the coil to still be original GM as well.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Scored a stock 2004R 2-3 servo assembly for my trans from Pick a Part to downgrade the super servo that the local trans builder put in and then keep putting me off to fix my issues. I guess he thought i was wanting a 1/4 mile truck as the shifts up were very harsh and the 3-2 downshift was absolutely horrible. The sound of the clunk made it sound like I was going to drop the rear end everything I slowed to a stop.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Finally got the replacement parts installed from the near accident on Mothers day this year. My u-bolt on the lower control arm snapped when I was turning off a two lane highway and sent me,my wife and my camper into oncoming traffic. Got it stopped and no one was hurt. Truck got a bent upper control arm and inner tie rod.Got the truck home and it has sat till now.Pictures are of the right side but I had already done the left.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I've been ready to install the engine cross-member for weeks pending another hand. Last night I was feeling a little alone, go figure my son shows up out of the blue. We maint. his car, then slapped on the cross-member.

Hurry up and wait is the theme. Can't finish my engine pending the painter for my oil pan. Can't install the rear leafs pending new bolts, and I didn't account for reusing the U-bolt plates, pending powder coat. Can't do the front suspension because new drop spindles come unfinished.

Always plenty to do however, methodically adding what I can to the frame, parts org. So many parts. PARTS REDUCTION ........I'm reusing most of the original hardware, no fun chasing them down.

Very nice! Nothing like some bling to help the build along.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Got my engine running after a year of working on it and the rest of the install. Fixed a transmission cooler line leak, and two fuel line leaks. The thing sounds good. On the bad side it looks like I have a seeping leak on the pinion seal, which I put in when I rebuilt the rear. That means taking the rear completely apart again to replace the seal, and I have the new bed wood installed. Bummer.

How did you set the pinion preload without pulling it apart?

Post Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

What you do is : mark the position of the pinion nut relative to the shaft and re torque it to *exactly* the same position it was before you took it apart .

Those who lack experience will claim it's not the same and won't work etc. , those who've done it and never had a comeback, leak or failure over decades and 100,000's of thousands of miles, know better .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Well for my first post ever I thought I’d share, long story short I traded a buddy work for doing a cab swap for a 67 LWB 2wd 4spd. It has a 6lug on front end which I would assume is factory and a full float Dana 60 8lug in the rear with leafs. I left work a little to happy on a Friday and grenaded the rear end. So I got a full rolling 74 chassis with SBC th350 2wd lwb. My plan is to swap the 12bilt into the 67 along with all the front suspension components to make it 5lug all around. Also I will put the th350 in it once I pull it and rebuild it.

So i finally got around to pulling the rear end and pressure washed it. Pressure washed the th350 in the chassis and it will get pulled next. Started measuring leaf spring lenghts and found I can not swap leaf spring due to length and spring width 😟. And I need a new driveling because the 60 had a 1350 ujoint and 12 bolt is 1310 I believe.

And if anyone could help me identify which trans this is would be very helpful.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I may try that. I think I tried to drive the seal in too far. Brain fart moment. Still have to get the torque on it under the truck though.

There is a u joint that is 1310 on one cross and 1350 on the other so you don't have to change your driveshaft. Napa #UJ348 or spicer 5=460x.
