Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Started the job I was dreading... Inner fenders.
So far so good. Easier then expected. Hit the topside with some paint stripper and gave it a quick going over with my orbital. Need to spend some time on it tomorrow to give it the finishing touch before some paint and primer...

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
The underside looked like it was going to be a lot of work.
I had a small torch and a scraper sitting by, and heated it up and it scraped off with rather ease.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
The underside, like the topside needs to be sanded out and painted.
Lots of years of undercoat on the inners... Good riddance.

After all you've done to it that is what you've been dreading?

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Actually it went better than anticipated. I was dreading stripping the undercoating, but after heating it up a little it scraped off pretty easy.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Got started on the interior tonight.
Got a few other loose ends tied up as well. It is always the small stuff you seem to drag your but on. Replaced the rear marker lights.

I'm not laughing at you, just kidding with you. After all you've done blowing apart a project this big it was a little funny that you were dreading doing the inner fenders, that's all. Beautiful work, as always.

I really thought I was going to have to take the undercoat off with an wire wheel on my angle grinder, which would have meant getting covered in the muck. But I had a small torch out for something else and thought "what will happen if I heat this stuff up" and it literally came off with ease.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Making some progress on the interior...
Got the passenger side door panels and lower carpets on. Installed new front speakers. Test fit the dash and instrument bezel. And made a cut out in the instrument bezel for my new jvc. Quick break for some dinner, and now back to the shop... Like to finish the stereo installation and possibly get some matting on the floor tonight.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Long day, but a lot done...
Dash fitted and installed. Gauges and bezel fitted and installed. Radio hooked up. Cool it mat started. Hope to get the mat finished tomorrow. As I am unable to get a pre cut carpet or even a rubber mat (every company I call is sold out... hot seller, ya right), I am taking the truck to a local auto interior guy and he is going to make me a carpet. Getting closer to burning some fuel on the streets of Lindsay!

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
First off I just started reading this thing and man I killed almost an hour or better. Killer build! Have a guestion for ya. I know you changed the doors out for 77 and later doors. My guestion is, are the doors that came stock on this the earlier doors for 73-76 doors? My guestioning is that I have been eyeballing these trucks for awhile for doors. It seems these doors on these trucks are usually more rust free. If they are the '76 earlier doors this makes it easier for me to find good doors without buying new. Thanks again.

As for the doors, I do not know what the difference is between 73-76 and 77 and up doors, so I am unable to comment. With that in mind, I know the doors I took off are the same as I bought. I can additionally comment that the interior parts (dash etc, are the same as a 81 and up. Hope that gives you some insight.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
The earlier doors use cute little door panels on the inside that leave about a foot of exposed metal on the bottom of the door.. The later doors use big door panels that pretty much cover everything from the window down.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Divermind. I went back and looked at the picks that you had of the interior and answered my own guestion. I knew that '77 and later doors used the more plastic and less desirable to me panels. I had hoped that these trucks would have used a more utilitatian door panel. Oh well. I've noticed around here that the C50s and so on seem to have good doors. They don't seem to rust like the pickup varieties. Thanks once again for your help and keep on keepin on. Killer build either way!
