and I know we have not discussed this in great detail though I may have touched on it, 3,712 posts ago, but I am going to go out on a limb here and just assume that the reason the front end is a bit cockeyed down and to the left (driver side) is that the tire pressure in the front drive side tire is only 14 PSI while the pressure on the opposite side (passenger) front tire is 34 PSI, ha ha well, simple fix, just let some air out of the other tire till they match right? |

Re: A '54 named Busty
so keeping this simple and hoping it will work, went with 10 gauge red power from battery and blue (pronounced: "purple") signal to the starter solenoid wires as it was the thickest Napa had, honestly I would have been fine with 12 gauge as that's what the factory runs on the second and third gens anyway
for the pink wire to the HEI (pronounced: All In One) distributor I went with 14 gauge cause that's what I had already and that should be it, that should do it, notice there are no fuses, actually a fuse pre ignition in an HEI application is frowned upon for the lower amperage (less than triple digits in my brain) I like to use the belt and suspenders approach and crimp and solder my connections before I heat shrink them for extra protection and durability |

Re: A '54 named Busty
I agree with the crimp/solder/shrink method.
Also, that's a good looking work bench you got there!

Update: On Sunday May 24th the undercoating arrived in my town Sacramento California, took it five days to get to my state from St. Louis Missouri. I've played this game before with chemicals, and they don't allow them to fly, so they have to go by train or semi truck, hmmm wings full of explosive fuel on a plane = ok, a 12 oz can of paint, oh NOOOOOO ! Re: A '54 named Busty
Wow, so that's what they are supposed to do? I thought they were just to look at and build stuff around.
Congrats! Now when is my ride?

Re: A '54 named Busty
I just wanted to revisit this Impala / early first gen truck column base plate which I can spend as much time on shaping as I did restoring the entire inside of the cab, ha ha
it's honestly amazing how the smaller the piece the longer it takes - can any of youz relates? this thing seriously has at least 4 bends in it, which is like 3 bends above my Skill Level, ha ha more pics of it coming up... Last edited by Gregski; 05-24-2020 at 10:45 AM. |

Re: A '54 named Busty
just sharing a pic of the PUROLATOR fuel filters I like to use, cause i know in a year I will be cussin' and fussin' having forgotten them part numbers, decent "universal" parts is getting harder and harder to find, they won't even sell them to you unless they can link it to some vehicle at the point of sale, so I just tell them Nissan Leaf and reach for the cash in my wallet, that ought to blow their minds!
one is 5/16ths (F20011) the other 3/8ths hose (F21111) depending which size fuel line size you is runnin' The Greg likes to run one before the fuel pump to keep debris out of it's diaphragm and the second one before the carb, to keep things out of it's well you know jets, and needles, and cavities now if you like carb problems by all means treat yourself to one of them sexy glass and chrome jobbies with the orange cone filter inside, it will keep you busy for quite some time, ha ha |

Re: A '54 named Busty
we bought a kit so let's see what's inside...
Please note, the hard plastic red and yellow shielded connectors are for decoration purposes only, and no self respecting do it yourself semi pro installer would ever use them on their rig, and have been disposed of accordingly as soon as the photo was taken |

Re: A '54 named Busty
so we were supposed to wire the electric fan today, so naturally we did something else
I must admit I am not too pleased with the black door insides, so we will label Ver. 1.0 as a failure, things are nice and clean and absent of rust, or at least we covered it up and hope it suffocates, ha ha but the color palette does not speak to me at all |

Re: A '54 named Busty
those of you still on the fence about getting a Media Tumbler, um don't!
tumbling hardware especially screws such as these stainless has gotten some sort of media tumbling debris stuck in every single philips screw head requiring a pick to extract it, also all the threads had rust replaced with media tumbling crud, so they had to be wire brushed regardless if I had to do it over again I would buy a second 4 1/2 angle grinder and keep a wire wheel attachment on it permanently saving me the time of swapping discs |

Re: A '54 named Busty
ah yes, this one came with the Sport Brake Package aka thinner pads for lighter weight, ha ha
honestly this is more than enough to go once around the block, and our motto here at Safety Third Garage is: "if it aint metal on metal... send it!" |

Re: A '54 named Busty
this is not a new bleeder valve this is after 2 minutes with the wire wheel and a shot of some compressed brake cleaner, it's not optimal on the account of pitting but for once around the block it shall might do
