Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside

Here is some progress from the weekend. I decided to build a short throw shifter for the t5. First thing I did was drive the pin out of the hole and drilled a new hole exactly 1" above to move the pivot point up 1". Here's a pic with the pin in the newly drilled hole

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside

Then I built a spacer plate out of some 3/16 plate I had laying around. It is exactly 1" thick to offset the amount I moved the pivot point by. This was very time consuming to cut, use the hole saw slowly and weld the two together. It would have been much faster to use aluminum but this is what I had and I made it work. Now all I need are some bolts that are 1" longer and it'll be done

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside

Progress has been slow lately due to the heat, but this evening I got all the bodywork on the rear drivers side of the cab all wrapped and sprayed it with some old paint to keep the surface rust off and so I could see my results.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside

I'm pretty satisfied with the metalwork and bodywork that I have done on this corner, this is what it looked like when I bought it. It had a very large dent/crease and the door was sticking out past the rest of the cab by at least a 1/4"

And this is how perfectly flush the door is now, closes with the push of a finger as well

This is certainly a Rock n Roll build, you just keep on progressing.

Good job on the cab side.

Thanks Jim, it sounds like you may have OCD (obsessive c10 disorder). Some of the symptoms include having too many projects, not enough money and or time.

Thanks rian, only a couple more weeks of school so I can start to get some real work done. I'll keep rocking and rolling for sure

I think you'll like the shorter shifter throw... and nice job fixing that big dent.

Ah I see, well it's gotta get done eventually just think about the fancy kitchen you'll have when your finished.

I started to begin tackling the passenger cab corner today, I cut the skin off and here is what I'm going to be dealing with. It's a tad bit worse than the drivers side, I'll start work on it tomorrow

Thanks Anthony, in the next couple days I should be starting be axle swap, so first thing on the list will be pulling the old axle out and welding the mounting pads to the new one.

Hey guys progress will be slow for the next two weeks since I have lots of exams to study for but I brought my rotors in to school today and turned them. They're nice and smooth and look like new, they still have lots of life left on them since the 78 gmc only had about 60,000 miles on it. Here's a before
