Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

This isn't really what I did to my truck but rather what I did for my truck. Still waiting on the great state of IL to process the title so I can hopefully pick up my new project soon, so I figured I would go ahead and start harvesting parts. The truck in the picture was purchased new by my dad in 1973 and runs great but the body was mostly rust at this point. The truck Im waiting on has a locked up I6. I will clean up this engine and get it ready to drop in.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

I finally finished my air ride suspension install: dual Viair 444c compressors, cupped lower control arms, 5 gallon tank, HD c-notch, and manual paddle valves. I also swapped in a rear diff with posi. A lot of time spent, but it will be worth it.

With the bed back on the chassis, I was able to test the tail light harness and air suspension...

Installed the new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing & extra long bushing in crankshaft. I used the bread method to remove the bushing from the crankshaft. Used 1 hot dog roll & 11 mm craftsman socket.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

By placing the bread in the hole and then pressing or driving a socket or a steel rod in the hole like a piston forces the bushing out I have also seen this done with grease

Didn't they do that on Road Kill with mustard or some other kind of condiment?

You need some cheap white bread & a socket or pin that fits snugly in the bushing. You roll up 1/2" balls of bread and pack the bread into the bearing. You will fill the bearing a couple of times.

When you can't stuff in any more bread with your finger, start using your socket to pack the bearing. Keep packing until the bearing pops out.

I used just 1 hot dog bun and even snuck a bite.

Does the bread squish out the hole in the socket?

Yes, The bread will squish into the socket. I turned the 1/4 drive end into the bushing, put a 3 inch extension in from the nut end & stopped the escape of the bread.

stretched her legs a bit (300 miles or so) unfortunately, too late to get a soda, but now I am determined to get some paint on there and at least looking whole.
