Seriously though, looking good. I've owned and driven a couple tbi trucks in my life, and despite their low horsepower ratings and entire lack of power above 4000rpm, they never fail to dissapoint in tq, fuel economy, or fun. In fact, when I detuned my 383, I had my freshly-purchased 1992 c1500 in mind. I wanted a strong midrange powerband. from 1500-4000. You can really feel that on the street.

EDIT: ALSO, I have a buddy with a 1993 c1500 with a TBI 350 and 340,000 miles on it. The truck still runs like a top. The engine has never been touched. He doesn't even change oil in it as frequently as I would
Haha...thanks! Yeah, I need to get my bearings about me and start making some progress again. I think I'll be happy with this choice...If I ever get to experience it running again

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Made some good progress today on the fuel lines. I had initially installed the tank backwards, which I thought would be fine...obviously it wasn't. I'm ok with it though, because I think the tank straps turned out better this time around anyway.

This was mostly an experiment. I didn't think I could cut and flare these lines on the sending unit.

What is that did you hear it? I think it's going to be a runner!!

What's left some wiring for a test fire?

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Nice work. Backwards like you had it would help the fill tube, but not the angle of the tank. Nice work though. I'm putting a 38gal rear tank in my 95 F350, and it isn't nearly as pretty as your truck.

I heard the voices in my head saying "what the hell have you gotten yourself into?"

I think that really should be my next focus. I need to install my fuel filter, run some wires, and at least pressurize the fuel system to inspect for leaks. After all, I did flare some of these lines

Thanks Ryan! Honestly, that was the whole reason I mounted it the way I did. I wanted the fuel filler on the driver's side. Oh well, I'm just glad to have that project 90% done. 38 Gallons?!?! That's gonna cost a fortune to fill

Thanks! I've seen your setup. Looks pretty nice. I would have gone with a less obnoxious size, but I'm not sure I would have made it to the grocery store and back ;-)

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

If you were set on a driver side filler maybe find a welder that could turn the goose neck and re weld it? I say find a welder because after my filler neck pita with a mig i know a Tig would be a much better way to go.

Looks nice, just like it was made to fit.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

I agree drivers side would be nice but maybe you won't wait in line as much with it being on the right side. Seems like their is always a pump open at the Costco when I fuel our cars with pass side fill?

Mike, looks awesome! I just got back into town and gotta get going on my final teardown of the control arm shafts.

PS. Why not run a hard line all the way to the tank? Is that possible?

Thanks Jason! I guess you could run hard lines all the way to the unit, but I think the rubber lines serve two purposes. 1 - they are a bit more forgiving for alignment purposes, and 2 - they allow flex between the frame and the tank. Hard lines would probably end up breaking over time. Just my thoughts

Good job Mike. What's left to fire it up, electrical? I'm guessing that you hear it run will give you tons of motorvation!

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Thanks Brett! I have quite a few items to work on. Flywheel, clutch, figure out what starter I'm going to need, new exhaust manifolds, and then electrical...then it should roar to life

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

In that last picture, it looks like the filler pipe for your tank was laying right on the frame. Had to scroll up to another picture to see it was just the camera angle. Nice that you can check fuel lines off the list - looking good!

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

What are you thinking hydraulic or mechanical? You did move the motor forward for the gear splitter correct?

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

I'm going to stick with the mechanical setup. I am ordering rod ends and chromoly tubing to build a bullet proof clutch linkage, and I will need to modify the frame a bit to accept the Z bar, but I think I'll be in good shape there. Where I'm struggling now is to make sure I get the correct flywheel for the '91 engine and the correct clutch and pressure plate for the SM465 and starter that will fit. It's been kind of a challenge, but maybe I'm just over-thinking it.

Thanks Nick! It's coming along, but may be coming to a screeching halt come tomorrow. I have the opportunity to pick up a '73 Vette that is a numbers matching 350 4-spd coupe. The only thing that makes this car worth it is it's condition and the fact that it was a black on black car which was not offered as an option in '73, but there were about 30 of them that left the factory in black. It will end up being a quick flip (I hope) and the price is just too good to pass up.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Well, the Corvette deal fell through. It wasn't originally a black on black car like I hoped. It was silver when it left the factory, and that just wasn't worth putting this project on hold for.

So, today I finally figured out the clutch linkage situation. Since the engine has been moved forward 2 inches, it put the Z bar right into the side of the frame. I ended up making a bracket to move the pivot ball back and ground the frame bracket off so I could also move that back. This is a major hurdle that has now been solved!
