So I don't know if you need any more parts for your project but I have a few things for sale if anybody is interested. Please PM me.

Last edited by msgross; 05-03-2009 at 03:01 PM. Reason: removed parts details.. please use the parts section, not my build..

Jon, did you post this in the parts board?

Thanks for looking at my build but I'd appreciate not turning my build thread into a sales thread though...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

not much going on lately... been working on landscaping, working weekends and catching up on spring chores...

I did get a little surprise, my wife went to our daughters (5 years old) Mother's Day Tea Party. At the end she was given a plate that my daughter made for her... Well to our surprise that plate is a pic of our daughter, my green 68 (hasn't been green in a year or so) and me holding hands out in the sun!

I had nothing to do with it either...

That's precious Mike (can I say that on a truck board, ). I would have someone put some clearcoat on it so it doesn't fade.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

So after my timing chain experience with the white 69 truck I decided to inspect the 68's. Good thing I did, talk about slack!!!

New double roller chain is nice and tight, all done for less than $50. I think i'm going to order a new harmonic balancer since the original one has cracking rubber...

cleaned up the original timing chain cover, ready for new seals..

Nice date code huh? It's neat to find little items like that hidden on your truck...

went to help my units yard sale fundraiser yesterday and picked up this little tool. More of a donation than anything but having a little tach handy when firing up the engine..

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

I guess you folks didnt have the same edition of the DIY manual for body work I have....... in the appendix it says "if you want a lasting repair... dont have chicken wire, or old window screen.. use scotch brite pads ( used ones of course)cardboard or news paper are only good if you are in a pinch and dont hold as much bondo"

on a lighter note... I went to change my motor cross memeber out fromthe V8 one yesterday only to find the Moron had welded it in place on one frame rail.. so the "20 minute" job took 3 hours. ! Im thinkin he must have lost the bolts.... argh!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

I think it is an unwritten PA law that says If your car/truck is older than 15years old,you have to have some kind of foreign object shoved into the lower fender/quarter in order to help retain maximum bondo!
Thanks Mike, now when I replace my radiator, I am gonna think about rippin off that timing cover to check mine! Yours was obviously a good preventative measure and its silly not to do so if the circumstance presents itself.Especially with all of the work you have done so far

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

sure does make since, only hard part was dropping the front of the oil pan again, I should have done this when I had the engine out. You can get a basic timing chain and gears for $20 and a seal kit for $10 so it is very cheap PM.

The 69 truck that I did had a tooth broken off the crank gear..

I just ordered a new balancer and sway bar bushings yesterday. I noticed that my original balancer had a lot of cracks in the rubber so for $60 it's another smart PM tip. I'm adding a swaybar off a mid 70's chevy since our trucks never had them...

I know, I know...

lets see...

1. Work 40-50 hours a week (seriously Rob, sometimes I do!)
2. coach soccer and have two other kids in sports
3. working on my MBA
4. honey do lists
5. sleep
6. try to have a homelife
7. unit softball just started
8. few trips for work in there
9. maintain 150+ hours flying every year
10. Cold winter garage, brrr.. (dec - mar)
11. hot summer garage, yikes (july-aug)

I'm sure I can squeeze in some truck time in there!!!

I have an excuse for everything too!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

well, I need to order the powder still, I have some media to donate to the cause though. I do have a lot of parts adding up though (brackets, pulleys, fan etc..) and would like to get them done in the next few weeks so that I can get the engine running again. We need to chat about prices and such since your oven will be on for a few hours...

Are you trying to bribe me with some "black beauty"? If you want you can drop them off and I can widdle away at them. As far as the electric I should be able to double up on the small stuff and it is 20 minutes or until golden brown. To be honest I am not real concerned about the electric, give me a couple bucks($20) and they will definately cover it. Also if you kicking in the slag we should be could! Way maybe some beer too! No welding this time so we're safe! Have a good Memorial day and thanks for your service,
