Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
You keep mentioning that it won't fit "between" the frame rails. I think you might be mounting it wrong. It mounts to the top rail, and sort of lays down so-to-speak. Then again, the mounting position might be slightly different from 73-80 and 81-87.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
on my clam shell i wont have to cut out the hump because it actually goes the opposite way most do and the plates sit flush. yesterday i picked up a new tool box from my neighbor and cut the work bench so it would fit. i cleaned up the garage and organized the tools.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
so yesterday Billy(draggin86) come over and took a look at the engine stands. we decided that it would be easier to just move the frame stands back 2" and weld on a 1/4" plate to the front x member. this is just basicly a modded "FRED MOD". Billy made a template out of cardboard to follow the lines of the x member and engine stand. We just measured back 2 1/8" from the orig. location. He also took the adaptor plate and cut off the triangle part. i have pics on my phone he sent but cant get them on here. Monday we are going to weld the piece on and bolt everything up so we can get some measurements for a tranny x member.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
i still need to pick up my trans dip stick tube, fly wheel cover, and a few othe misc parts from Parts Planet. I have also been planning out the smoothing of the firewall and painting it and line x'ing the bottom of the cab after i weld in my patch panel so i can get the cab on.
my plan is by spring to have the cab mounted with the fire wall smoothed and painted Red Jewel and the underside coated so i can hook up the electrical and gauges and fire this motor up. I am really stoked!! If the weather stays like this ITS ON!!

Looks awesome man. Thats exactly how I did my engine stand. Just seemed easier for me to do here at home without alot of fab tools. Glad to see your progress. Looks great!

Looks great dude! Love that bright aluminum color, it will really pop in the engine bay. That was a great idea.
