I told him about the site, there is a sticker on the back window too I like how low it is, but the frame is sitting on the axle, it would take lots of work

Repost:
Where is your compressor from? Did you replace an older working model? If you did replace an older one, what kind of difference have you noticed? The A/C in my 78 Silverado was updated to the new Freon type, but the compressor is original. The air is very cold, but the compressor bogs down my engine every few seconds. It feels like an 80 mph gust of wind slams into the front of my truck, slows down, and then goes away... I would really like to know if a new compressor would fix this... Thanks!

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Do they make a bolt in notch for the c10 or only weld in? I figure a mild notch, and helper bags and your money for the back. I could see the front being a bit of a pain. Does your crew have a two piece driveshaft?

In the early '80's GM changed to this style of compressor. Sorry I don't have any experience with the older compressors Quote:
I have thought about some helper bags too. And yes it is a 2 piece shaft

No problem. You are getting a lot of them. :-) But with this style you do not experience the "bog down" I'm referring to? My uncle and I plan to eventually pull a late-80's fuel injection engine with an overdrive tranny which would allow me to use this newer compressor. Or, it might just be better to go the Vintage Air route.

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
I haven't driven it since I replaced the compressor, this rear end swap is a bit more involved than I anticipated. Gotta swap out the springs and get my drive shaft shortened.
Thanks for the reminder, I'll fix my sig right now

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Whoa! I thought it was just a matter of changing some shock mounts and u-bolt hangers? That kinda sucks I was thinking about installing a later rear end with posi. Makes me wonder now. Be sure to document what you are doing just in case

Were you planning on driving Destiny over here this weekend? Just wondering
Amazing how something you thought would be simple, ends up being a lot more. Is gonna be worth it though, well worth it. Looking slick! |

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
You can't have enough good friends when it comes to having older autos.
My body man has an engine builder buddy, been using him for all sorts of information on my truck lately. Just wish he were closer, not really worth it to load up and drive almost to Tahlequah for this small stuff. Could have had my intake machined, but the air drill worked fine. |

I bet he is out in the driveway putting on new U bolts. Just my guess. Or... he is out with a smile from ear to ear cruising with his new third member already all bolted in.

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Man, I wish
I got it all put back together and guess what? I only have about an inch and a half between the axle tubes and frame. Drove it around the block and it bottoms hard on small bumps. I'm about out of ideas. I guess flipping the axle was a bad idea. I could notch the frame, but I would need to bring the front down 4-5 inches. That's too much to do with springs IMO. I'm also thinking about modifying my rear hangers to flip the shackle over. But that would most definitely jack up my pinion angle. I might just un-flip the axle, hope my shortened drive-shaft will still work... What the hell was I thinking? Scott, feel free to give me an "I told you so"

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
dang man, i was afraid of that when we were looking at it. Try and un flip it and if the drive shaft dont work ill look for one and we can make you one and keep that one for later.
Buy some drop spindles and have the rush shipped and we will put some C notches in it this weekend Last edited by scotts62; 07-23-2010 at 08:01 AM. |

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
It has 3" drop spindles on it already. Think I'll stop by the trailer place on the way home and see if they have any perches. Randy, Sorry, it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it this weekend
