Re: Project Roxy

Just curious, where did you get your brake booster and master cylinder on Roxy? Thanks

The one pictured is Hartrods. Mine is a CPP disc/disc booster and a generic 6" booster I bought at a street rod show.

Ok, thanks a lot. I'm wanting to go with a smaller booster to gain some room with the BB valve cover. I hope you don't mind, I posted a question about this and used one of your pics for a reference?

Cause I'm too cheap and broke to spend $300 on new fancy bed strips. I used the old and hide the fasteners. Primed. Now to bed line body color or paint the same color as the wood tone.

Re: Project Roxy

So after throwing another $500 at this pig, I'm a few steps behind now.

Basically, truck was starting really hard. You had to crank it for about 30 seconds to a minute before it even thought about starting. Once it did, it ran rough until it was warm.

I figured a new carb with an electric choke would solve the problem (it started decent when I choked the old carb).. Nope.. and now the starter just took a dump on me.

I'm too the point where I just want to bring it to someone to finish it and be done!

You are too far along to give up now!!!! It will all come together, if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all with mine

Sounds like too much timing. What ignition system are you using?

I haven't posted here in awhile. I had totally lost interest in the truck for a couple of months. Watched my boy play baseball and did some home improvements.

At the last post I had the starter rebuilt only to crack the nose cone. My wife and kids bought me another starter for father's day and I back the timing off a bit. It appears to be starting alot easier. However, I'm going to have the guy that built the motor set the timing again.

I've renewed my love for the truck in the last week or so and now that it starts I think things might not be such a fight with it.

I'm going to finish the bed. Nothing fancy, just a sheet of stained plywood. I'm hoping to have it drivable by mid-september for an NSRA show.

Re: Project Roxy

CPP brakes.. Not a fan and would not probably buy them again. For $1700, I probably could have went with a better company with less hassle.

Latest dilema with them.. The 7/16-20 wheels studs are 3/8" too short to work with my billet specialities vintecs. (they are the screw in style 12 point flange head) Call CPP and they say they have never had that problem. (I know that's not true and has been addressed on this site) They tell me any speed shop with have them and they have nothing in stock to fix my problem.

After search for 8+ hours, I found a hex head grade 8 bolt that might work. I ordered a bunch and will see. Just find it funny that CPP made little effort to make it right after I spent so much on the brakes.

Re: Project Roxy

AND you've had a bit of trouble with them, now this. Thanks for the heads up. Truck is still killer though and you'll get it where you want it! I love it.

Those have a knurl section on them. The ones that are installed on mine are 12 point flange tap bolt (fully threaded). I thought finding them would be easy. However, they only place I've found a 2 1/2" bolt was a place in South Carolina. It's a grade 8 hex head. I'm hoping that will be strong enough to use as wheel stud.

I contacted a board member way2low and he said he might also have something that will work.

I'm not sure on the grade 8. They are very hard but they are also brittle. All of the axle places (moser/currie etc) have screw in axle studs. Maybe give them a call.

Re: Project Roxy

You can also check with ARP, I know they make wheels studs too. Not sure if they have a 12 point fully threaded head but maybe they have something that will work.

Re: Project Roxy

I have never seen a 7/16" screw-in wheel stud before. I wouldn't want a 7/16" stud anyway. Personally, I would run a 1/2"-20 stud (what our trucks came with from the factory, for a reason), and either drill and tap for screw-in, or drill for the knurl size on the press-in.

Re: Project Roxy

I have looked on every website I can think of. ARP, Currie, Moser, Strange, Summit, etc. No one has anything that long.

The only company that has any that long in that thread and pitch is https://www.boltmax.com/proddetail.php?prod=455266-8

Looks like those bolts will work. You could call one of those companies and ask them about the grade just to see what they say. Your other option would be to redrill and tap your hubs for 1/2 20 screw in studs that you can buy. Because mine are 5 lug they already have the 1/2-20 studs.

And yeah, it's total BS that CPP says they've never heard of this problem. I still have some emails that I sent to them over 6 years ago.... That's fine, CPP has lost me as a customer (which I'm sure they don't care). I will buy from another source when and if I build another project.

You were the exact person I thought of when they said that to me.

I'm pretty sure those grade 8 will work.. but, who knows.

I think you will be fine with those. They will definitely be better than what you currently have...
