you guys are the experts but realistically unless someone really wants a Highlander, isn't this truck in the 15 - 16 K range?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

clearly the seller stumbled on this website... I'd agree $22k is a little out there - but when someone lists, then relists with a massive bump like that, kinda chaps my lug nuts. Whatever. It's a $22k truck if someone will pay that much. (EDIT: I'm an idiot - I thought Greg's post said it went from 16.9 to 22k... Disregard, I'm gonna go break out my crayons and coloring books) I'd argue that, yes, it's a VERY nice truck, but(!) unless you've witness all of us raving over highlander plaid, it is just a C20 Custom Deluxe in great shape. In its great condition, I'd say $7-13k is a reasonable, and wide, range. $22k is hype in my book. I guess, if we were smart, we'd start a thread on how ugly the plaid interiors are and really make em sound like something nobody would want.... Hmmm.

We that is kind of the whole point of the thread they were and still are unloved by many. While I am sure many of the "Hidden Highlanders" out there are due to an unavailability of "catalog" or cheap, correct seat covers, just as many have to have fallen into the "what were they thinking?" catagory.

To me it is a bonus option to find on a truck but not really an "added value" enhancement. While some combinations are very rarely found it doesn't make them typically more valuable to most potential buyers.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

...lol, yep hard to say if the entire highlander look was a good thing or not.
I have a buddy of mine who thinks it (the plaid) is the tackiest thing he has ever seen.
I have been threatening to have an entire suit made out of the highlander plaid material when I have the seat redone....and get an extra pair of pants made for him personally....lol.
All Good

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

yeah they are definitely an acquired taste for those of us that do like them. i get some weird looks and responses just to the ochre and white paint job from the factory that i want to redo let alone the grey plaid interior.

Hers another for sale on EBay and its had couple of tweaks. This truck has the YG7 package which doesn't have A/C yet someone added A/C along the way.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Here is another and it looks to be unmolested YG8 Package Highlander even having the PA1 hubcaps. He is asking, shall we say, all the money for the truck. Got a question on this one and SSTim probably has the answer. Would the factory have painted the tailgate letters yellow?

On Custom and Custom Deluxe trim level pickups optioned with the Deluxe Two-Tone paint (coded 4XX), the tailgate letters were the primary body color. So in this case the Light Yellow letters are correct.

This truck is a long from "as delivered", aftermarket A/C is certainly justifiable down in Houston on those 99*/99% summer days.

Thanks for that info Tim. I know this is off Highlander topic a touch but does that mean the Cheyennes and Cheyenne Supers had primary body colour letters as well?

Cheyennes and Cheyenne Supers included woodgrained tailgate appliques covering the debossed lettering visable on Custom and Custom Deluxe tailgates.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

This is my cousins 72 highlander. The lucky dog got it for $400 dollars from our neighbor who thought the motor was frozen. We brought it home and put some gas down the carb and it fired right up. We drove the wheels off it for about 2 years and we never knew it was a highlander. It was only until I was waiting for him in the truck and decided to look at the spid that I realized what it was It is currently getting a 6.0 and 4l80e swap that we just got running a few days ago.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

O.K. guys. I just ran across this 1972 truck and I started investigating the SPID and I think I have a highlander. If possible I need to know for sure before I start restoring. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes, it is. As long as it has a plaid seat on the SPID, it is considered a Highlander, regardless of whether it came as part of the promo pkg (YG6,7,8).

That is a beautiful one Greg. If it had 5 miles on the odometer, the price would still be a little crazy... But it is VERY original, not many still have the PA1 wheel covers still on them. I wonder what the mileage is on its odometer...

Clearly your truck was built as a Highlander trim (611 blue plaid) optioned truck plus a fair number of other options as well including an AM/FM radio.

However in it's current form the truck is very different visually than it was originally, as built.

The seller is claiming 100,127 and the odo is showing 00127.5

If anyone should get its SPID please post it up here.

Tim, what is your point about the mileage. On a 6 digit speedo with the last being in white showing the 10th of a mile after the truck hit 99999.9 the next would be all 0's and then start counting again. So 00127.5 would be 100,127.5 but would show as pictured at 00127.5.. Am I missing something here ?
