Something else I'm learning is that to some a thousand dollars is giant and to some it's just a drop in the ocean.

Re: Low Buck Build Threads Help or LBBTH
Quote:
For some of us a Scott's front end setup, Porterbuilt dropmember or Currie rear axle assembly just takes this months build funds or is a couple of payments on the card while for others the same piece is equal in cost to the total annual build budget or some guys total build budget. Still spending a bit more on quality items in some places on the build and saving money by going conservative in other areas can still come with a build that is well within budget that can be added to later when funds become available. Spend the money on the critical pieces like the front and rear suspension and brakes and wait until later for the trick pulleys on the engine or the trick valve covers or other bling that can be bolted on in a short period of time. That set of steelies and good tires or that set of custom wheels you picked up at the newly divorced gal's yard sale across town for pennies on the dollar will work fine until you save for the rims you really want.

I have nothing more in it right now except the purchase price. Plus if you look at the pics there ar a/c units everywhere... That's what I do and my boss jus lets me use a spot in the shop! In the last pic you'll see I used an a/c duct lift to lift the rear up lol ( u can use anything as a tool)

Re: Low Buck Build Threads Help or LBBTH
It's what ever it takes. I've found some nifty ways to make do with less. Who knows maybe we need a thread just for that....

Re: Low Buck Build Threads Help or LBBTH
I call my '67 GMC SWB "Project Po' Boy" cuz I'm using what I have and I don't want it to look like "money" when it's done.Justa cool little truck to drive. But,I'm not doing a build thread because it's not a constant effort due to budget (see project name),so not much to follow.

That's awesome fellas. Thanks for joining in on the fun. Thanks to all who have spent time adding to the list. If you haven't had time to look at some of these cool rides do so. I think you'll be surprised what you can do for so little. I get inspired each time. It's like Christmas.....

Re: Low Buck Build Threads Help or LBBTH
Mine is quite a low buck build. I started on this when I was 17, I'm 20 now and a full-time student, so no real big income to sling around buying nice things. plus theres more pride in building rather than buying.

Re: Low Buck Build Threads Help or LBBTH
Mines pretty lobuck. I've found some smoking deals on a few things. But a lot of things that I've wanted to do that were too expensive, I've researched them to death until I found a way to do it cheaper. And don't let anybody tell you that you shouldn't do things a certain way. I got so much flack for going with a 6.5td. But it will do exactly what I want and it was a 10th of the cost of a Duramax or a Cummins.

Re: Low Buck Build Threads Help or LBBTH
Killer man. I enjoyed reading your build. I spend what time I can surfing for new builds or at least to me that is that I feel fit into this sort of low buck theme. I know some will cry foul and some will have cheers but there's a lot of really talented folks out in the garage plucking away. Guys with nothing more than a drill and a welder. Keep it up.

Thanks, glad you are enjoying the build. I'm ready to get my brakes finished up and get back on the road!
I've picked up a lot of good money saving ideas from this board. Lots of folks doing big things on a small budget which is way cool. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Low Buck Build Threads Help or LBBTH
That's what makes low budget, low buck builds so kool. It isn't how much money you can spend or what you can buy off the shelf. How you can make do with little. Thanks again for your build.

Re: Low Buck Build Threads Help or LBBTH
Project no-buck in my signature.
At then end, I spent more money, but it wasn't required. Heck, I ended up with a fuel injected engine / air conditioning, and 1/2 ton disk brake suspension and made money by parting out the rest of the donor trucks. |

Re: Low Buck Build Threads Help or LBBTH
It took awhile to find these and many more kool rides like this. I wish and would like to find more. Recently in Hot Rod magazine that the best selling issues were the Reader Rides issues. That tells you something.
