Re: 1960-1972 Lowering Block U bolts

Try to heat at the nuts first and see if they'll come off but if not, two cuts at the top of each (before they start curving over) and you'll be able to (hopefully) pound them out of the trailing arm but they'll be off the rear. I still had to heat mine on one truck to get them out of the trailing arms as they had siezed inside the trailing arms...

Re: 1960-1972 Lowering Block U bolts

I got the nuts off really easy. It's the ubolts themselves that are froze solid inside of the trailing arms. Where did you apply the heat to get them out?

The side where the bump is for the u-bolts (both sides) then whacked it with a big hammer

Boris... is it $5 shipping for two u-bolts? Looking at picking up a set of 1.5" u-bolts here in a month or two.

Thanks buddy.

Re: 1960-1972 Lowering Block U bolts

Ok so today, after soaking for a couple of days with penetrant, I took the torch and cut the ubolts at the radius on both sides. I then took the impact and ran the nuts down till the bolts spun freely and viola, they fell right out. Piece of cake. Thank you all for the ideas.

Re: 1960-1972 Lowering Block U bolts

Sorry I'm late to the table! For archive reasons...I just did mine the other day. I hosed down the area with PB then ran the nuts down to the end. I then took my air hammer with a blunt tip and alternating between the two ends, hammered the u bolts up and out. A coupla DA DAs and they pushed right out.

Quick question for you guys. I have 5 inch drop springs shock re-locators and matching shocks from brothers. If I want to go 2 more inches with blocks, will I need different shocks?

The blocks won't change the location of your mounts or the disctance so the shock will be fine.
