Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

Hi coopdog, First, very nice truck you have! What intake are you using with the new efi system? During your research into FITech did find any prevalent info supporting using either a single or dual plane intake manifold?

I'm running an Eddy Air Gap currently with carb but I'm considering switching to the FITech but I keep getting mixed info on intake preference. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

Cody from FITECH told me that their system works with both duel and single plane(of course they said that) but he told me that the single plane or a duel plane with an open riser/spacer work the best. If you are running a duel plane he said that the base of the TB has an X pattern notch in it. Since I had the duel plane I just added a 1" spacer that was open, Actually it is an adapter plate from the spread bore to the 4150 flange.
My TB is still on back order so I installed a Holley until the TB comes in.

Interesting, thanks. I too seen on FItech's website that either intake is fine with their system but I'm concerned that the divided plenum of the dual plane would hamper fuel atomization of the spray so I have been researching whether a small open plenum single plane manifold would be better for spray distribution. Perhaps like a Victor Jr?

Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

The reason I asked the question is I seen on the you tube video of engine master(the Roadkill guy) had problem with the FI with a duel plane so they went to single plane and it worked well.

I found the episodeEngine masters Episode 2

Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

Radical man, you will be nothing but impressed with the kit. I took the truck for a ride just the other day, and man does it run good. just turn key and go. I must say though , some fine tuning will be needed to get the system just perfect. but still the kit makes a world of difference.

Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

We'll finally fired up truck tonight, started right up on first try , had a rough idle had to keep foot on gas pedal , finally leveled out. Ran for maybe 3 min then started pouring fuel out of vent on command center. Have a holly performance fuel pump by command center gauge was 7psi supply.Rechecked fuel supply in and out all is plumbed right. Gonna give fi tech a call !!

Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

No sir. Tried for two days left messages to call back. Hearing from lots of people that the customer service is bad.Did get one email reply that said vent needed to be ran back to tank. I should save up for an efi tank if I have to run a hose all the way to my tank.

Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

I have been reading on the Chevelle forums about your exact problem with the Command Center. Most say save the $400 and put it towards a proper tank and fuel system. Look around their section, there is a lot of FITech chatter there. There is a lot of knowledgeable hotrods there that have gotten their feet wet on the FITech system and are sharing their what they have learned.

General EFI page
http://www.chevelles.com/forums/89-efi/

Chat about FITech:

Link to the fuel regulator and filter that they are using for the FITech:

Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

We'll pulled needle and seat could see no visible trash, put back in and same thing. Got back in touch with fi tech supposed to call me Tommorrow . I sure hope they can get this resolved cause my 670 holley sure was running good. Would hate to have to put carb back on but I c where they are having a lot of issues with FCC and some fi units.

Could the float be out of adjustment? Or just won't close?

Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

I don't understand why there needs to be a needle and seat setup in there. Why can't the mechanical pump just pump it full?

Re: Fitech swap on my 1972 K20

If not then the fcc would not stay full. Then it would also become a pressure vessel and I am not sure it is designed to live in 7-9 psi. Hope this makes sense
