Re: "BIG" truck forum C/40, C/50, C/60 and the like...
If only I could justify having one, I know exactly the C-50 grain truck I want. L6, 4 speed, split axle, dump, excellent condition, sitting at *****. Like I would give up my barn find!

With all the crap that's going on in the world today, you would deny yourself the joy of driving a truck that contributed to the growth of the greatest nation on earth. It's like driving in a parade everyday. Everyone smiles and points. Don't think about just what it can do for you, rather what it can contribute to the memories of others.

Re: "BIG" truck forum C/40, C/50, C/60 and the like...
I know the feeling! My uncle is a furd guy but inherited this 1970 C/50 (that has a transplanted 327 in it) from his father-in-law. Other than the engine it is basically stock...just worn out from years of hauling grain. Beings as he is a lover of the blue oval, he doesn't have much attachment to this beautiful truck. I called dibs on it at soon as he no longer needs it. He said that was fine with him! I can't wait!

Pulled up beside a Topkick with a duelly bed on it in Knoxville yesterday. Cool as could be! The trailer was heavy judging by the wine of the desiel taking off at the light. And this thread gave me a place to post this.

Re: "BIG" truck forum C/40, C/50, C/60 and the like...
I have a 70 gmc school bus converted to a RV and love it. It is a pusher with the 401 v6 and 6 sp allison auto tranny. I would love a place to ask specific questions like one I'm trying to solve right now. My bus has the dayton style wheels and I want badly to convert it to a 10 lug design. I thought I had the answer when my dad's neighbor offered me his mid 60's C-60 dump truck. on the outside the dimensions were the same but after taking them both apart I discovered my bus has larger front spindles and brake shoes and would require custom bearings and machine work on the hubs. the rear was even worse. the c60 had a gm axle that I believe is the equivalent of a rockwell(the outside demensions were the same, but my actual rockwell on the bus has about a 50% larger axle shaft and way bigger brake shoes. My question is this: Is there a direct fit 10 lug that I can swap out on my bus?? What vehicle should I be looking for to do it?? I'm hoping that I can just swap out the hubs to make this change and not entire axle.

Hey 70gmcPT4- What gauges does your bus have? I'm looking at a C-50 shorty bus here in Cali, but I just want it for the speedo and quad gauge... unless your style bus has cooler gauges. A picture would be great!

Re: "BIG" truck forum C/40, C/50, C/60 and the like...
basemodel67--It currently has the same gauges you are looking at, 5" speedo and 5" quad, speedo works but not sure about quad, it has some aftermarket fuel level and volt gauges that were added on. I've spent the morning looking at replacement aftermarket stuff and am going to fab another gauge panel with all new individual gauges.

Re: "BIG" truck forum C/40, C/50, C/60 and the like...
70gmcPT4- If you don't want those gauges... set 'em aside for me! It would save me from buying a bus that I really don't need. I was planning to get some to rebuild anyway, so function doesn't really matter- just that they're all there and not destroyed.

yeah i would consider that a big truck too, so has the thread died yet, what about including buses, RVs and the over cab sleepers not sure what they were called, the ones mounted on c30 frames.

Re: "BIG" truck forum C/40, C/50, C/60 and the like...
Well what's keep it from happen right here? I'm hungry for info myself. I'm worken on a 67 c50. Surprizingly found brake parts at the local napa. Though needed the casing number off of wheel cylinder. So hold on to the clues.
Looking for some front fenders for it. Should have pick them up last time I was in the junkyard. Got to check and see if there are any around anymore. Anyone got a set. 67 does not have amber side marker cut into the fender as do the 68,69,70,71,72,. would be cool to have them. Thanks bushy By the way I know another individual that just bought one to use solely for a site truck on a piece of property he is developing to build a house on. I spotted another one today (c50) looks like it is still in use. Last edited by bushytlb; 01-26-2010 at 11:34 PM. |
