Finished all of the window trim and put up three plates that I picked up while in Arizona. Hope to have paint on the floor this week.

Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

I finally got the inside to a point that I could start hanging signs and bring in a few goodies. Also got my upper cabinets in and will use my current kitchen cabinets for base cabinets, but that will have to wait a couple weeks. Still have more signs and all of my tools to bring over. This is giving me a great chance to clean all of my tools and reorganize them.

The baby is doing great!! Not sure if I said it yet but its a boy. We are both very excited. She will be 24 weeks along on monday, with a december 11th due date we are 4 months away!! Which means I need to get a move on our house. My goal is to be finished with garage addition/remodel downstairs by the time the baby is here.

How's your family? Any camping trips planned?

Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

Well, I have officially started the tear out phase of our house. My plan is to hire someone to build a two car addition and for them to complelely finish the outside of it and change the siding color on the house. In the mean time I will be gutting the downstairs of the house and completely redo it. We are transforming the former mancave/3 car garage into a new living room, dining room, new kitchen, new bathroom, and a laundry room. Ill try my best to keep pictures coming...... I know that it seems pointless to hire someone to add on the garage while I am perfectly able to do it myself. Obviously I just built one. We don't feel that I would be able to do the garage and remodel inside in the time we are hoping to finish this thing...... So I guess when time is an issue, you gotta fork out alittle more money

Here is where I am at on the house. Hope you enjoy the ride!

Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

Its been awhile, but here are a couple of updates. We had to have a survey done and have our property split into two pieces, the bank didn't want to give us a loan because I own two houses and they are both on the same parcel. So after a huge delay things seam like they are going to be picking up speed. The bank has ordered the appraisal, so Im hoping that we will kick this remodel/addition into high gear in 2 or 3 weeks. In the mean time I have done a few things inside, while trying to keep a useable kitchen and bathroom. The new walls are in place, and most of the old tile is up. I have ordered the new above ground storm shelter, this will be in the laundry room. Hoping to move the furnace into its new home soon, which will also be the new laundry room. I know its hard to see what is what, but it will be coming together soon.

Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

congrats on your "additions"
that shot of your kit looks like it's on a TV set stage lol

curious about, the new "above ground storm shelter"
is that a reinforced room?
up here i've only seen storm cellers "in ground"
and movies like twister.....everyone runs for it

Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

I guess its time for a little update. Not as far along as I would like to be but life gets in the way I guess. We did get the HVAC relocated to the new laundry room and the storm shelter was installed. I am very happy with both. They did scratch the shelter a bit when they were moving it into place but nothing a little paint wont fix. The storm shelter is built with one piece of
1/4" steel plate wrapped around a 2" square tube skeleton that is bolted to a concrete floor. The door is extremely heavy and has a dead bolt with two sliding 1" rods on the inside to lock it. The nice thing is we can lock the door from the outside and keep things locked up in it.

Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

I also removed the kitchen window from the old kitchen which is now the new laundry room and moved it to the new kitchen and got the sofit build over where our cabinets will be. We have decided to go with 96" tall cabinets instead of the standard 84" cabinets. We felt it would look better with our 10' tall ceilings downstairs. Almost done with the electrical/plumbing in the kitchen too. We are FINALLY about to close on the construction loan for our project so we can actually start having some serious work done. The contractor that is adding on the new two car garage/upstairs bedroom is supposed to pour footers end of this week or early next week. Can't wait to see all of the progress! Please ignore the mess, we are trying to live in this thing while all of this goes on.

Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

Oh and I forgot to mention, the baby is 32 weeks along. At 30 weeks he weighed in at 4 lb. 3 oz. which put him in the 80% percentile, 50% is average weight, so I guess he is a big boy. I just hope that he makes it to the 40 week mark so I have more time to work on the house.

Angry Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

We are finally to a point that we can start moving quicker on the project (we closed on the construction loan). The contractor that we hired to add on the garage/bedroom addition started this week and I hope that he works as fast as everyone says he does. I have contiuned to work on the inside and feel that I need to move faster but life gets in the way. we also set up a little corner in our room for the baby, just in case he comes early. By the way we are 5 1/2 weeks from due date.

Re: BIG changes coming my way!!

Almost done with sheet rock in the laundry room, got the kitchen to a point that the cabinet guy could come and measure. bought new front door, ordered new windows and new back sliding patio door.
