724X4, What do you think the durability is on those things? Will they last very long or is it gonna be something that will burn out once in a while?

Re: My first build thread LED REVERSE LIGHTS!!
leds have a rating of 100,000 hours. your average 60 watt light bulb only has 1,000 hours of life. http://electrical.hardwarestore.com/...bs-102546.aspx They should last a LONG time. Assuming that you do the resistors right and provide only the proper voltage to each led
Reds = 1.8-2.2 volts White = something like 3 volts (cant remember)

Re: My first build thread LED REVERSE LIGHTS!!
i prefer to buy mine from someone here in the states, there's a guy in maryland (wilni14) that has a good selection and a guy in kansas (randccom). randccom seems to only sell reds though.

Re: My first build thread LED REVERSE LIGHTS!!
how in the world to you fit so many in the tail lights? they must be 3mm's instead of 5mm? ECE's kit looks packed and they only have like 200 per side. Did you take pics as you built them?
Justin

Re: My first build thread LED REVERSE LIGHTS!!
I had mine built about 5 years ago by a former board member and he used 3mm. I will try to find the pics of them before I installed them. They were designed like the new cadillac Deville with half of it lit up until you hit the brakes or use the signal, then they explode! .

Re: My first build thread LED REVERSE LIGHTS!!
Thanks for the sites.
Ive got one more question, the soldering iron we had in our shop was 100 watts and its shot. I need to get another one, what wattage would you recommend? Id need one that could do work like for these reverse lights and also for regular wiring in the cab. Should I get 2 different ones? They had one that was 15/30 watts variable, but I dunno if 30 watts is enough for bigger wires.

Re: My first build thread LED REVERSE LIGHTS!!
Justin- After checking the pic it's actually 12 rows x 27 columns for a total of 324 individual bulbs per tail light. That's 648 LED's and ALOT of soldering. I'm running the EL-12 flasher.

Re: My first build thread LED REVERSE LIGHTS!!
This is the soldering gun i have. Its a weller rated at 240/325 (Dual Temp) I havent had any problems with it and it does everything i need. The only time it doesnt work is when it comes time to solder to the bulbs. I usually get the propane torch out for that one and heat up the copper surrounding and solder to the inside of it.

GEEZE!!!! i thought 85 took a long time!! I just finished laying out my passenger side setup. Sticking with 85 per side but i didnt offset them like i did on the driver side. Hopefully it wont be noticable. I really need to get one of the electronic flashers. my hazard lights blink about 3 times/second. Justin

Re: My first build thread LED REVERSE LIGHTS!!
any idea where he got the bulb inserts?? Its a real pain to try to modify and make them work. We bought ours at weslakes when they closed out their rental department. Also got a bluebird engine hoist and some small engine (briggs) tools

Can someone elaborate on what is needed if you do LED flashers and taillights? The EL-12 flasher?..

Re: My first build thread LED REVERSE LIGHTS!!
You might PM 68w/sbc406. He did a build thread on the turn signals. Its in the FAQ section. I did the retard version of his. I just lit up half for running lights and the other half come on with the brake/turn signal.

i havent had to change my flasher yet since i still have incandescent tail lights. but you just need to get a electronic flasher when you go full LED since they dont draw as many amps to trip the stock flasher. i know napa has them.
