A little more done. Got the vent wings out after them soaking in PB blaster over night the top 3 screws wouldn't move yesterday. They came right out today!
Got the windows both a part and blasted the supports and channel's they run in. Glove box hinge blasted, and front park light housings done and the front grille is looking much better than I first thought it would. Still working on it though and waiting to see how it turns out. ![]()

We set the cab down on the SWB frame today. Getting ready to start cutting out the old rocker panels. She was all excited, then I told her it had to come back off once we have them tacked in place. The mounts set down good and bolts lined right up. All new hardware.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Before you put a bed on the SWB frame could you measure the distance from the back of the cab to the first bed mounting bolt hole and then measure from that bolt hole to the other bed mounting holes. This will help me if I shorten my own LWB frame. Thanks D

Drivers side about done. Spent 8.5 hrs on it today cutting, grinding and welding metal. Oh did I mention grinding on it!
The door shuts good with good gap all around. More filler welding and then more grinding it should be good. ![]()

Drivers side door is done except for the inside panel, arm rest and new window crank. I also put the dash pad in and the wiring is back in the truck. Passenger side will be soon. I have to get the vent window done first though.
Question for ya'll though... The drivers side door shuts good and has no gaps that look out bad. But for the life of me I can not get the dang door to lock!!! What am I missing? The passenger side shuts and looks just fine. Any thoughts on this. I adjusted the sticker for over 2hrs today and it want lock. I can open the door and it locks just find no binding. ![]()

Got the passenger side window in and all the rubber seals installed. New door latch. Wired up the wiper switch, dimmer, key switch, starter and HEI. I cut the resistor wire right at the fuse block and added a normal wire to the cap. Got the ground straps hooked up to the frame cab and motor.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
You may know this already but shine a light from inside the cab on your gas filler panel to make sure you don't have pinholes in your welds. Due to the temperature (condensation) difference inside/outside the cab this will get moisture in the body filler and rot from the inside out. I wasn't aware of this and had a bunch of pinholes in mine before someone told me to do this.

Thanks and yes I have been checking it. I finished up the passenger side repairs today. Being my first welding on sheet metal panels I had a good friend come over and give me some good instructions on heat settings and feeding. He is the retired welding instructor for the local vocational school here. The welder had .030 wire in it and he suggested we swap it to .024 and man what a difference it made. I had a good day. I started working at 9:30am this morning and I'm basically 2 days ahead of what I thought I would be on the truck right now. Is it perfect heck no but man it feels good to know I can repair sheet metal panels if I ever have to again. ![]()

I had a nice little surprise from another forum I post on this morning when I got up. Bangshift did a small write up on the 68. My daughter was tickled PINK!
![]() https://bangshift.com/general-news/p...s-first-truck/ Today I started on the drivers side repair cutting out and heating up the what was left of the old rocker and backing plate to get it out. Hope to have all this welding done by weeks end. Not cutting out near as much on the cab corner on this side as we did on the other side. ![]()

Got the drivers door latch replaced with new one installed Tilt column waiting on the DD/ to 36 spline union to show up to finish installing it. Got the heater box all back in and wiring harness is all hooked up. Lights are hooked up temperarly to try the wiring out.
I was told today I have until Jan 31 2020 to be done. I shouldn't have any problem with that. ![]()

Hooked the steering up and installed the alternator bracket. Got to swap the long water pump for a short one tomorrow.
I ordered the GM Disc Brake Conversion Proportional Valve Kit Disc/Drum Proportional Valve along with a Lokar Column Shift Linkage GM TH350 TH400 4L60E TH200 700R4 ACA-1800. Suppose to be here Tuesday so I hope by next Friday it's up and running. Tomorrow plan is install throttle cable and brackets for the kick down for the 700-R4. ![]()

Good day on the 68. Got the 67 amp alternator on and took all the old external regulator wiring out and ran everything to the alternator. Need to find a alternator arm to work with it though. Got the steering all hooked up. Throttle cable done and 700R4 kick down cable is in. Not adjusted yet but it's in.
Still need a squirrel cage for the heater motor. Temporarily hooked up the battery and it has lights. ![]()

Well I checked the NSS today and it works. We cranked the truck yesterday with the key switch. Ran good. Only problem I have now is the oil gauge isn't working so I have to get another gauge installed. Put a temporary gauge on it and it shows 60lbs.
Got the shifter linkage hooked up but didn't get it completely adjusted like I wanted. Will finish that and putting the finishing touches on the brakes to start filling them and bleeding. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoGVe4n76ZU
