The only parts I'm keeping on that burb are the engine, compass mirror and a few other nick-knacks. I'll be Craigslisting the rest unless someone wants to make me an offer on the whole thing minus the parts mentioned - (I'm not even using the fuel injection or wiring) Feel free to PM me.

You should have been here for 76 days of 100+ degree weather this summer with no rain. Brutal.

I agree 100% When buying parts the parts are many times cheaper on this site and the sellers are honest in their description. Also if you need a part you can post a WTB (want to buy). Same goes for selling...

Ok...back to your truck. It rocks and you have done a super job with it. :

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Bored waiting on family time for Xmas so I pulled Hefty Smurf out for a stroll around the block and a couple pics.

I failed to update much recently, but I've been adding sound deadening to the interior and installing carpet - it's not photo worthy yet because the rockers need to be painted and trim installed - I can say that it's now the quietest 67-72 Ive ridden in. (not saying much)

Also, I recently added GMC center caps to my steelies - not sure I like the look but I spent too much $$ on conversion lug nuts to not run them for at least a while.

I know the "new" stainless trim I have is dented. That was the point; it needed to look like it'd been there since the truck rolled off the line. The cowl will be back on for next photo session.

Whatchu Guys think of the center caps?

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Plan for the weekend (ambitious)

• Paint rockers with rust cap - see pic
• While that dries, install the transmission in my roommate's '68
• Install new door weatherstrip from GMC Paul's
• Bolt down the seat, add seat-belts, sill plates, kick panels, and various interior pieces to finish things out for the time being.
• Install AC delete pulley on the '98 vortec donor then steam clean the motor
• Drink Beer(s)

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Got quite a but accomplished this weekend:

The rockers are now painted, GMC Paul's weatherstrip installed, sill plates installed, door panels double sound insulated, kick panel covers installed, roommate's 700R/4 installed, beer was drank and BBQ eaten. The only rattles I hear inside the cab now are the door lock buttons and the shifter linkage. I'll attack those soon.

Here's a couple update pics - that's my buddy, Brüski holding down the passenger seat.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Well, the roommate won. He's driving his truck first. I'm still not finished...

So here's his ride as it sits today - he still lacks finishing touches, but it's looking pretty nice.

Also attached is today's pillage of the Suburban. tomorrow I'll strip the intake and such and maybe decide if I'm going to just pop it in as is or freshen it up.

The steelies aren't permanent by any means. I'd like some 8" wide stock looking steel wheels with dog dishes but haven't run across them yet.

Here's the Vortec with my Edelbrock MPI setup sitting on top. I can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Parts delivery today

I got some nice new aluminum valve covers for the Vortec and a set of OEM (in the orig boxes) GMC hubcaps.

The hubcaps are loaners but I figured it'd be interesting to see what they looked like.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Did some test fitting of the parts today - the hubcaps look goofy with the black wheels underneath but kinda fun anyway. I'm going to pass on those and let my friend fleabay them.

The valve covers did not like my vortec bracketry. I'm quickly falling out of love with that serpentine setup and might start shopping. Grr! Regardless, after some grinding, they are on there along with a billet specialties air cleaner that I had sitting around. Looking pretty spiffy!

ECE headers (Sanderson) finally arrived. i know from research that folks were concerned with the collectors coming too close to the transmission 'ears'. I'll slap them on the current motor and post pics of the situation as soon as I can.

Hey Flint70, I live in N. Austin but work on the truck out at my family's ranch in Elgin on the weekends. It's therapy after a long week in an office bldg. ...checked out your 'Patina Azul' thread. I might have some detail parts you could use.

PM me if you and your boy wanna take a day trip to the country some weekend and checkout my piles of parts.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Headers are installed on the old motor and awaiting my order of tubing so I can piece together the custom exhaust.

I'm attaching several photos of where the headers dump and one of how I plan to route the eggsauce.... Problem is the muffler that I have is REALLY large and I'm going to need to move the crossmember that would have held the trailing arms about 8 inches forward. Since GMCs run leafsprings, I'm not married to that crossmember's location. I have another one sitting around that will be modified to fit both pipes through. Once it's bolted in place and everything seems kosher, I'll weld it to the frame for rigidity. and remove the original one.

Anyone done this kinda thing and have horror stories?

Eggsauce routing. All tubing will be above the crossmembers - all tucked as far up to the body as possible. 2.5 duals going into a stainless muffler with a single 3" exit. It'll exit the truck on the driver rear corner with either a stainless tip or a slash cut. Crossover pipe just after both pipes meet on the driver side. Mandrel bends on all hard turns.
