Re: Tommys66 Build
I've seen the same thing. The e-coat lifts a little and rusts underneath. I won't paint over that crap anyway. You're better off starting with fresh metal.

yeah, that pic was from the drivers side, so I guess I will strip both sides and prime fresh.

Filled a few more holes in the firewall, blocked and primed. Stripped rockers, got cab corners finished and primed also.

Looks good Tommy, Do you think you'll have any problem with the spacer on the trans. I have to raise mine up like over 1"

Re: Tommys66 Build
Shouldn't be a problem, The transmission sits on the spacer with the same surface area as it would have on the crossmember. In my opinion, it should be fine.

Re: Tommys66 Build
one thing you can do if you use a cressent, is to use a wash cloth or some kind of hand town to stop it from scratching it.

Re: Tommys66 Build
I wrapped the fittings in masking tape, then a wrap of electrical tape to try to keep from scaring the fittings. It helped, but i still scuffed them a bit. I put a piece of masking tape on the hose beneath the fitting and marked it so i could tell if the red part of the fitting pulled any while tightening the blue into it.

Re: Tommys66 Build
I don't know why those fittings don't come polished, or chrome. For a Race car it wouldn't matter, but to me I think it would look better.

Re: Tommys66 Build
1999 camaro. Had to trim the bottom of the frame rail about 1/2" on both sides, and made the hangers from escort straps.

Re: Tommys66 Build
I would re-think using only a frame mounted cooler for your trans. You'll be hard pressed to find a trans builder who will ever recommend using that type of cooler only. Most want you to use the trans cooler in your radiator...why? Because water will transfer and remove far more heat than any air cooled version, not to mention bringing your trans to operating temp quicker on cold days. And, as posted by another forum member, you have little to no air flow in that location. Just my .02..been doing this for 30 years...learned the hard way. |

Re: Tommys66 Build
I installed an electric fan and aluminum fan shroud from jegs. Fan is controled from the PCM. It was 80deg in the shop today and the fan cycles on for very little time to maintain temperature at an idle.

Re: Tommys66 Build
Thanks. I got the idea from 68shortstep. On yours, could you not series the water thru it from your heater core lines?

Re: Tommys66 Build
i thought about that but if I use the heater box from the 08 sub it has a water shut off for the heater so it would slow the flow for the cooler
