Re: Ice cream getter

I wish I had a good comeback to that but I don’t so I’ll just keep sanding and sanding and sanding…
The tub should be ready for paint tomorrow and I still don’t know what color I'm going with.

Re: Ice cream getter

Picking a color is absolutely killing me. I am “borrowing” space at a friend’s shop and have to spray this weekend. I still have no idea what color though!!

Re: Ice cream getter

I hope you get a color you like(love) the 1st time...I painted the fire wall Sunburst Orange Met and decided it was too dark...I wanted something really bright. I finally mixed my own, more lime than olive. This Blazer is amazing, BTW...Good luck.

Re: Ice cream getter

I'll will try and remember to look up the paint code, but what I'm using is Allis Chalmers Persian 2, it's an eye popping color. Here's our most recent restoration. David

Re: Ice cream getter

Hilljob – that two tone blazer has been one of my favorites as well.
Notsolo – I like it. Reminds me of a ’75 I had. I think it was called spring something or other. A friend now owns that truck and says he gets compliments on the color all the time.

Coggonobrien – I don’t farm but I really want to restore an old Case someday. I found a slide dated ’64 of a 530 that my wife’s grandfather owned and have wanted one ever since.

Re: Ice cream getter

Well, after way too much thought I finally decided on a color. Dark olive it is. Not the direction I was originally thinking. I was looking for something bright and bold so I’m not sure so sure how I ended up with this. Should have had the outside completed too but had one of those nothing went right experiences.

” I am still putting mine together after fresh paint last winter”
Gillnetter you are moving at a pace I am familiar with

Finished painting the tub this week including blacking out the bottom. Base went ok but the clear, not so much. This stuff was thick and heavy like no clear I’ve sprayed before. I should have reduced it but wasn’t sure the reducer I had would work and as it was about midnight I couldn’t call anyone I knew to ask. My gun is set up for much finer or thinner material, like the base, so I kept spraying. I cranked up the air pressure and just poured it on. The end result was lots of orange peel and plenty of sags. Even had a couple of bugs decide to take a rest after the last coat. The worst part was when I turned the tip on my gun to spray with a horizontal fan for the tail light area. I quickly hung the gun up adjusted the rotisserie and then forget to turn the tip back before spraying the bed side. I was pissed.

I love the title of this thread. That's what I plan on doing with mine once it's done, too.

Re: Ice cream getter

Thanks all
I have made a little progress. Everything that should be green is now green except the glove box door and ash tray… I think. I wasn’t happy with the quarters so they got a little more paint as well.

Re: Ice cream getter

Also posted in the paint and body area.... I started sanding the clear tonight with hopes of everything working out but I am guessing I am not going to get so lucky. Three wet coats of clear over base. I started with 1000 wet on a 6” block followed with 1500, 2000 and finished with 2500. It shines but sure isn’t flat. It looks ok when looking at it straight on but looking at it from any angle not so much. It has that really worked over, heavy material, yah I should have had someone else spray this, look. I tried to capture what I am talking about with pictures but the pictures look better than the reality.

This is slightly exaggerated but you get the point. Imagine a shiny shower door.

Any suggestions on how I may be able to save this? Should I block more with 1000? Should I just block all the way back to color and reshoot the base and clear? Try to save the base and just reshoot the clear? Any ideas? Help please!
