Re: Honest answers for your Longbed 350 Mileage?

305,700R4, 3:42=13.5 MPG...ticked off, decided if that is the mileage, might as well have fun...454,700R4,3:42, intake, holley spreadbore, headers, 3" exhaust=13.5 MPG, no curb is safe 84 shortbed

Re: Honest answers for your Longbed 350 Mileage?

When my pick up was as close to stock as it "ever" was, with a 168,xxx miles, headers, 2 1/4in exhaust, a mild RV cam, full time NP203 and TH350. Everything stock...it would pull off 6.5 MPG, everywhere. I imagine highway gas was sucked down by the full time 4wd, and I really kept my foot out of it in-town because more or less it ran like crap.

I wasn't talking to you or replying to your post.

I was making a general statement that just happened to be the next post after yours that going by the glove box sticker alone is not always correct. These trucks are around 30 years old so they could have gone through several gear changes by now, none of which are on the sticker. Mine has had different gears in it since it was a year old.

Re: Honest answers for your Longbed 350 Mileage?

I used to have an 85 GMC Sierra Classic halfton 2wd longbox, 350, turbo 400, 3:07 gears, heavy foot, I got 10 mpg. But the truck never ran right. I've heard that 1985 was the worst year for smog crap and that 86 was different again but better.

I currently drive a 1990 Chev V3500 crewcab 4X4 with a 350 and a turbo 400 and 35" tires. Its 6000 lbs. Its also gets 10mpg regardless of how I drive it.

Re: Honest answers for your Longbed 350 Mileage?

I am running a 355 with Edelbrock goodies, hooked to an sm465/np205. I have 4.10 gears and 33" tires.

It's in a '77, and besides the newer clutch fan, I am running the stock air cleaner on top of the Edelbrock carburetor, and stock exhaust manifolds.

If I stay under 70 mph, I get 14 mpg.

Even though I have 33" tires, the 4.10 gears let the engine turn them without effort. After all, it's running about 2,600 rpms at 60 mph.
